EU invests over €380 million in 133 new LIFE projects to support the green transition all around Europe The European Commission has allocated over €380 million to 133 new projects under the LIFE Programme for environment and climate action. This funding represents more than half of the total €574 million investment needed, with the remainder coming from governments, businesses, and civil society. The projects support the European Green Deal’s goals, including achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030. Key areas of focus include circular economy, nature and biodiversity, climate resilience, and clean energy transition. Examples include recycling battery waste, desalinating ocean water, and supporting nature conservation and sustainable energy communities across Europe. https://lnkd.in/dNMfYsyk

🍃🌊 "Natural #ecosystems store immense amounts of #carbon and every year, about half of human carbon dioxide emissions are neutralized by forests, #wetlands and marine habitats...Similar to the #carbonneutral transition, it is urgent that we also embrace the #naturepositive goal so as to build a #sustainable future for all." 👉 Read Nature Positive Initiative convener Marco Lambertini and Umweltbundesamt - German Environment Agency President Dirk Messner, both #CCICED Council Members, in China Daily on the importance of China-EU cooperation to tackle urgent #climate and #environment challenges. https://lnkd.in/dnYbSxY2

The European Climate Neutrality Observatory (ECNO) has published a report entitled "State of EU Progress Towards Climate Neutrality 2024", in which it states that insufficient funding is slowing down the transition to climate neutrality and calls for increased investment in natural carbon dioxide sequestration. In it, experts argue that EU countries are heading in the "wrong direction" in their efforts to reduce carbon dioxide levels, as natural carbon sinks continue to disappear and a lack of investment in climate change jeopardizes progress. They consider it "urgent" to take action to invest in natural carbon dioxide removal by encouraging a greater diversity of tree species. UNITED NATIONS GREEN CLIMATE FUND (UN GCF) UN GCF is a fund established to support developing countries in mitigating and adapting to climate change. It was created under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to channel financial resources towards projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance climate resilience. The UN GCF aims to mobilize funds from both public and private sources, facilitating investments in renewable energy, sustainable transportation, forest conservation, and other climate-related initiatives. By supporting sustainable development pathways, the UN GCF contributes to the global efforts to address climate change.

Nature-positive policies and incentives are crucial in reaching climate goals. Our CEO Jennifer Morris joined CNA at #Ecosperity Week 2024 in Singapore, where she delved into the pivotal role of nature in combating climate change. She shared invaluable insights on the significance of investing in nature-based solutions to meet climate goals. 🌎 Nature as a Climate Solution - While energy is crucial, Jennifer emphasized that nature accounts for 30% of the climate solution. However, less than 10% of global financial resources are invested in nature-based solutions. Shifting our focus to nature is essential to achieving carbon neutrality and fulfilling the Paris Accord goals. 🌱 Valuing Nature in Southeast Asia - Despite the region's rich biodiversity, there's a need to change how we value nature. Jennifer highlighted the importance of incentivizing regenerative agriculture and ensuring local communities benefit from conservation efforts. 🌿 Restoring Trust in Carbon Markets - Jennifer addressed the challenges faced by carbon markets and advocated for a reset to ensure integrity in both project implementation and demand. High-integrity carbon markets can drive positive change and benefit communities. 🌳 Impactful Initiatives - The Nature Conservancy's work in Indonesia, particularly on the island of Borneo, exemplifies efforts to protect critical ecosystems and biodiversity. Innovative approaches to forestry can mitigate environmental impacts and support local communities. ☘️ Nature Bonds - Jennifer discussed the success of nature bonds in addressing the dual challenges of climate change and global debt. By converting debt into funds for conservation, nations can safeguard ecosystems while managing financial burdens. 📺 Watch the Full Interview for more valuable insights 🌏🌱 #Ecosperity2024 #Sustainability #TheNatureConservancy #Temasek

I recently spent time with leading economists who are currently focused on (national infrastructural environmental awareness adaption) Challenging industrialised nations around the world who are implementing (atmospheric turbulence) onto nations who are actively environmentally consciousness and currently excersising heir own positive strategic environmental objectives. A new set of ideals and principles on (Ultra low carbon emissions) beyond Greenwashing! And carbon tokens! Leading countries in (environmental accountability) are now working with high court on new laws to govern ( reluctant environmental participants ) India 🇮🇳 China 🇨🇳 Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 who are proposing green initiatives on the back of high carbon emissions forecasts over the next five years. dangerously high oceanic temperatures increase and unbalanced weather patterns are demanding huge carbon reductions happen today! Not in the next five years. Nature is calling out and we have to listen! We are aware change has to be implementated at the very top level in order to realign public habitual activities towards natural environmental support around the planet 🌍 My new book ‘Environment before Industry’ currently publishing exposing phycological trends set by leading governments for the benifit and protection of internal fossil fuel investments in these (dangerous) climate altering industries. The pressure will be applied to national infrastructure in a very transparent form as to calculate (reactionary accountability) comparatively 👏 between shared global environmental responsibility.

This week we published a paper that aims to inform Portuguese climate mitigation policies for carbon capture (sequestration). It is part of the RNA2100 national adaptation roadmap, introduced on Tuesday at the Ministry of Climate Action. The future forest and mitigation scenarios are based on current and new plausible forest policies versus climate impacts (fires). Our aim and hope is that they inspire national policy and strengthen policy ambitions. The paper is already listed in the Skeptical Scientist in a list of Climate change mitigation public policy research - I guess that's good 😁 (https://lnkd.in/d2BGDkU5) In the future, we may create sequels: 1) exploring local conditions and challenges for policy implementation in Portugal (e.g., in corporation with ODS local) and 2) forest policies and future forests in Mozambique and other global South countries. See how forest the Portugues forest area and species may develop in the future depending on the policy ambitions of the Portuguese decision-makers: https://lnkd.in/dCqaug6W
