Kharafi National built a wastewater treatment plant on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, with a capacity of 78,000m³ per day, using membrane bioreactor technology. The project, valued at US$ 102m, was for the Abu Dhabi Tourist Development & Investment Company (TDIC). Initially appointed by Kharafi National, we focused on disputed variations and delays. Despite the project's challenges, TDIC wanted to keep it on schedule, even arranging for tanker loads of wastewater to be delivered to the site due to delays in surrounding urban and residential developments. The intermittent supply of wastewater significantly affected the work. We recommended that Kharafi National appoint a claims writer and delay analyst to identify significant changes to the programme. This helped pinpoint the delays and justified the contractor's entitlement to additional time and money. Our efforts ensured that the project remained on track despite the challenges. By addressing the delays and variations, we facilitated the smooth progress of the wastewater treatment plant, contributing to the success of this essential infrastructure project.
