I mean REALLY understanding them - not just how they see you and the relationship they have with you. But what they're planning in terms of new products and services, and the developments and innovations within their sector. And finally, what THEIR hopes and aspirations are. Because, although you are paying them, you (and they) need to know that *it's not all about you*. If you know how to improve your relationship with them, things stop being purely transactional, and move to more of a strategic partnership...
