But that's not the graph for medicine in the US, it is a flat horizontal line which represents a monopoly. The line is raised every year by 8% and controlled by the cabal of "big medicine" which limits the supply of hospitals through the "petiton of need"; i.e. approvals, and the 100k/yr cost of medical schools which are again controlled by licensing, and of course by the insurance networks that inhibit startup medical practices by insuring they can't get patients who are only given referrals to docs in the networks; i.e. the ones who accept the reimbursements of the plans. Duplicitous is this monopoly is Medicare/Medicaid, the biggest reimburs-er of them all; and CMS is controlled by politics which is controlled by the insurance, hospital & drug lobbies. So Medical costs will continue to go up 7 or 8% a year until there are less patients and less supply. Which brings up the ultimate solution, people should eat more vegetables and diet and exercise. Then the graph will make sense.

We're in touch with people across the service, and we know that most purchasing decisions are on hold until after July 4th and the forthcoming General Election. Even after the result is known, it may be a few weeks before an incoming government starts implementing its plans for the NHS and we get real traction in technology. These are frustrating times, but rest assured that digital will be central to the future of healthcare. As the polls continue to tip towards Labour, it’s useful to look at the party’s plans for the NHS, as shared by Jon Hoeksma in Digital Health. Greater use of digital is a core theme. Other political parties also stress the need for greater tech adoption, with the Tories promising £3.4bn tech investment. Are you ready for this evolution? Whilst we wait for the election dust to settle, health tech suppliers should not sit still. They should continue to engage the market to build brand awareness and closely understand their immediate challenges. This intelligence can inform how they target their products after the election. For example, the new government will likely want to show off quick wins using tech; what can you do to help achieve those? Is it really ‘all about the journey’?     Being on an airplane this week got me thinking in metaphors.  The UK has also taxied onto a new runway, done the final checks and taken off on a different journey of its own, after the recent general election.     Spirit’s global head office is in the UK, so it's only prudent to ponder and predict what the change in government will mean for healthcare.     I don’t have a crystal ball, otherwise I may have bet on an election date (which may have got me into trouble?).     But there is one thing I can predict will not change:  - A continued need and desire across all aspects of healthcare to provide optimal care for patients. One thing that has to change:  - How we embed digital technologies as normal practice, to take on the challenges of healthcare. My own journey is about making health easy.      In conclusion: it IS all about the journey - especially if you’re striving to reach a destination.
