EANDC recently held our annual meeting, and we were thrilled to see a large gathering of supporters come together to celebrate another year of impactful work in our neighborhoods. We are incredibly proud to serve this vibrant community and honored to have such dedicated supporters by our side. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, shared stories, and celebrated our collective achievements. Here’s to another year of building futures!
What inspired me to work in the affordable housing industry? Can't wait to hear from our panelists Nov 18th in the Windy City!
Two pivotal experiences shaped my path:
Volunteering for @Junior Achievement each year in Charlotte, NC. I learned firsthand about food insecurity, financial struggle, and unsafe neighborhoods. I’ll never forget asking the children what they were dressing up as for Halloween—one little boy burst into tears because his mom couldn’t afford a costume, and none of the students trick-or-treated in their own neighborhood. (Happy to report my team at PwC bought the entire class costumes.)
Poverty Simulation hosted for employees by PwC opened my eyes to the uphill battle faced by those financially behind. Simple things like having direct deposit versus riding a bus to a check-cashing agency, or the dilemma of sick children keeping a parent from work translating to no pay for that day (no paid PTO), reminded me how fragile financial stability can be.
These experiences gave me a deep sense of purpose—to help ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and the opportunity to live in thriving communities. It’s about creating security, opportunity, and dignity for all.

Who inspired you to do the work you're doing? For many of us, the answer is family: our mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters. At WAHN's Windy City Luncheon, we'll be focusing on Generational Strength, and hearing from some affordable housing powerhouses about their journeys and the impact their families had on them.
Join us at noon on November 18th at Swissotel Chicago to hear from Tracey Scott of the Chicago Housing Authority, Cissy Watson and Ali Watson of Mansermar Development, LLC, Guacolda Reyes of The Resurrection Project and Cat Vielma of Red Stone Equity Partners LLC

At Inventures 2024, we were joined by Carol Wildcat of Ermineskin Cree Nation and Lynn Smith of Peavine Metis Settlement to discuss building trust between Indigenous nations and institutions. The discussion moved from taking a personalized approach to Indigenous community engagement, fostering long-term and mutually beneficial relationships, and how fruitful partnerships between institutions and nations can help create a better, more sustainable future.
At NAIT, we respect the individuality of Indigenous communities and ensure that we walk beside them to help them achieve their training and applied research goals. Together we are building trust, sharing knowledge and creating impact. nait.li/3xILXIz

Science moves ahead of real estate but Kadans Science Partner and Canary Wharf Group have challenged themselves to turnaround this statement.
James Sheppard says: "We're not designing for the first tenants, we're designing for the second or third.
"We've never shied away from the fact that if you go into a Kadans building, it's more expensive than some of your other options. But what you get for that is a level of service and a level of quality that is far beyond other buildings."

(and don't worry EG's life science guru Evelina Grecenko gave permission for Dom to tread on her patch 😁 )

My inspiration for this inaugural event came from my deep connection to professional sports and the respect I hold for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which honors NFL athletes for their excellence both on the field and in their communities. In the same spirit, the CHANGE AGENTS OF PHOENIX event was created to celebrate real estate professionals who excel in their field while also making a lasting impact beyond their transactions.
In real estate, where authenticity is key, I believe greatness extends far beyond exceptional performance in transactions. True greatness enriches an agent’s work and purpose—it embodies the ability to think beyond individual deals, to give back, and to positively influence the communities that support them. My mission is to elevate real estate and showcase how the industry, through its unique relationship capital, can serve at a much greater capacity—transforming lives and communities through our everyday business responsibilities.
A select few outstanding local agents, nominated and voted on by my event partners and industry peers, have been named this year’s CHANGE AGENTS for exemplifying these core values:
- Create Impact Beyond Transactions: Using their success to drive positive change.
- Embody Core Values: Integrity, purpose-driven action, and collaboration.
- Lead with Inspiration:Their stories inspire meaningful service.
- Serve the Phoenix Metro: Dedicated to improving their local communities.
- Engage Online: Amplifying their impact through a strong online presence.
Their stories are inspiring, and we can’t wait to walk alongside them and honor their dedication and lasting contributions.
Next month’s event will be an exclusive, private gathering held at a custom spec home still under construction, thoughtfully planned in partnership with my builder partner Living Stone Builders and Brian North of North&Co. This intimate setting will provide the perfect backdrop to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our honorees and the genesis of what’s to come.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the history, culture, and contributions of Native American communities whose rich heritage predates the founding of the United States. This day is an opportunity to reflect on the land we occupy and recognize its deep-rooted significance to Indigenous peoples.
In real estate, it’s essential to acknowledge that the lands we build on and develop were once stewarded by Native American tribes, many of whom were forcibly displaced. As real estate professionals, we have a responsibility to support equitable development that respects this history and fosters opportunities for marginalized communities, including Native American populations.
By prioritizing inclusive urban planning, affordable housing, and sustainable development, we can help ensure that future projects honor the legacy of the land while creating pathways for all communities to thrive. On this day, let’s commit to integrating these values into our industry, striving for a future where real estate development fosters equity and preserves the cultural significance of the spaces we inhabit.
