Dyslexia Nigeria’s Post

Visual stress often co-occurs with dyslexia and is frequently the cause of words appearing to move, blur, or even look backwards on a page. While dyslexia itself isn’t a vision problem, visual stress can make reading challenging and uncomfortable. At Dyslexia Nigeria, we offer comprehensive visual stress testing to accurately assess its presence and severity. Our tests help identify individuals who may benefit from tailored interventions, such as recommended coloured overlays or tinted lenses, to alleviate symptoms. 💡 Note: Visual stress can occur even with normal vision, so a specialized assessment is key to effective solutions. Let us help make reading more comfortable! 📚 . . . #DyslexiaNigeria #Dyslexia #VisualStress #DyslexiaAwareness #Myth #Fact

Dyslexia Nigeria. Congratulations for acknowledging that light sensitivity ( aka Visual Stress, Meares Irlen etc) exists and may be co-morbid with dyslexia. Are those who perform "comprehensive visual stress testing" also competent to assess for other adjustments such as rest breaks, exemption from artificial lighting, reader/ writer etc? Registered psychologists can provide that type of assessment, but most optometrists do not have the capacity to do so. While light spectrum filtering overlays or lenses help some people, they ameliorate but do not cure. In the education and workplace sectors additional adjustments may be necessary. It was not his light spectrum filtering lenses which enabled a  student to zoom from last in the cohort of 100 students to 23rd, it was a volunteer reader/ writer. Coloured paper:– "Paper doesn't reflect as much... made the writing go bigger...made the words not go blurry... words in the background didn't move" . Obligations of Australian educators: see the letter by a former NSW Minister for Education ( Piccoli) linked to my blog " What should we do now for light sensitive learners?" https://blog.aare.edu.au/what-should-we-do-now-for-light-sensitive-learners/
