US Healthcare is big business! Its projected to reach a staggering $7.7 trillion by 2032. For comparison, that's more than the GDP of every country in the world currently with the exception of China and the USA. National health spending for 2023 is projected to have grown at a rate of 7.5 percent, with expenditures reaching $4.8 trillion, according to a study from the Office of the Actuary (OACT) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Health spending over the course of 2023–32 is expected to grow 5.6 percent per year on average, leading to a projected $7.7 trillion in overall spending by 2032. National health spending is expected to have outpaced nominal economic growth in 2023, causing a slight increase in the projected health spending share of gross domestic product (GDP) from 17.3 percent in 2022 to 17.6 percent in 2023. Over the course of the 2023–32 period, national health expenditures are expected to grow 5.6 percent per year on average—outpacing the nominal GDP growth rate of 4.3 percent—resulting in health spending accounting for 19.7 percent of GDP by 2032. https://lnkd.in/gNAs6VbZ

Healthcare infrastructure development is the key requirement of today’s India. Nation growth story lies with good public health and healthcare assurance for all.
The health sector convened a meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today and discussed on more allocation of beds to certain states. It was also recommended that the government review rates and increase allocation for reimbursement under centrally sponsored health schemes. 🌟 🌟 This article, by Christina Farr and Chris Ellis, written from US #healthcare and #finance perspective, also works well for the Indian context, albeit in different ways, I especially liked this comment they make with reference to the 'consumerization of healthcare' "Taking a step back, a rational consumer market requires three key elements in our view: ⏩ an understanding of what the product is; ⏩ how much the product costs; ⏩ its quality relative to similar products in the market." In the Indian healthcare context, there is so much that can be done for each of these.... Aakash Ganju Aditi Hazra-Ganju Girija Biyani https://lnkd.in/d-tEJbvy?

🚀 MSC’s view on innovation and the role of public-private partnerships💡 In India, traditional healthcare financing, which relies on out-of-pocket payments, has historically burdened low-income households. However, recent data from the Economic Survey 2022-23 shows a decline in direct payments from patients due to increased government health expenditure. Innovations, such as microinsurance, health savings accounts, and outcome-based financing, have emerged to mitigate financial risks and enhance access to care. Technology has been transforming healthcare financing in programs, such as Ayushman Bharat. These programs implement digital solutions for claims management and fraud detection alongside telemedicine and UPI for efficient service delivery and payments. Flagship government programs, such as Ayushman Bharat and the National Health Mission, significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenditures and, in turn, stimulate demand for healthcare services and improve the overall financing ecosystem. While challenges, such as affordability, regional disparities, and rising costs, require sustained policy interventions and investments, public-private partnerships (PPPs) are vital to expand healthcare access and address infrastructure gaps across India.
