Having lost my Dad to #pancreatic #cancer this development is very personal to me. I know first-hand how devastating the late-stage diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is for patients and their families. This exciting breakthrough to develop a #liquidbiopsy to screen for pancreatic cancer has the potential to provide early diagnosis and increased life expectancy for those at high risk of the disease. https://lnkd.in/gqQr7v7K

➡️ This morning, a post that looks at some findings in #lungcancer, which in most countries, claims more lives each year than breast, colon, and prostate cancer combined. 🙏 Not the most uplifting topic but important research to hopefully, drive better treatements and #patient outcomes in the coming years and decades. 🤔 We should also be mindful not to stigmatize people with lung cancer as it has several causes. #cancer #stigma #sciencematters #researchmatters

According to early clinical data, a new experimental blood test can detect stage 1 and 2 pancreatic cancer with 97% accuracy. Although pancreatic cancer accounts for just 3% of new cancer diagnoses, it's one of the most fatal due to the difficulty of detecting it at an early stage. A quicker and earlier diagnosis means it's much more likely the cancer can be surgically removed before it spreads to other parts of the body, significantly increasing the likelihood of a full recovery. The clinical trial included patients from the US and Asia and will now be studied on a larger scale. #liquidbiopsy #IVD #cancerdiagnostics

As CNN reports, researchers are looking to blood-based biomarkers as an innovative early detection tool for pancreatic cancer. Dr. Brian Wolpin, director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, explains that the lack of screening tests means too many patients are being diagnosed in the later, more lethal stages of this disease. “The more patients we can find early, the greater the chance we have to cure patients of pancreatic cancer and start to reverse the statistics.” These sentiments are exactly why we are proudly investing in MD Anderson Cancer Center's study that is harnessing AI to integrate imaging and blood-based biomarkers. To spot breast cancer early, there are mammograms. To find colon cancer early, there are colonoscopies. But there is no standard test to detect early cases of pancreatic cancer.
There's still no standard test to detect pancreatic cancer early. Scientists are working to change that

March is #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth! Each year, nearly 1.9 million people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer, accounting for nearly 10% of all cancer incidents across the globe. It is the third most common cancer globally and also the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Regular screening and knowing what the risk factors are is incredibly important for reducing your risk of being diagnosed, as well as improving your prognosis after diagnosis.
