Can you believe it's been 10 years since the Ice Bucket Challenge? As we reflect on this milestone and celebrate ALS Awareness Month, it's incredible to see how far we've come together. Before the Ice Bucket Challenge, the lack of ALS awareness only added to the struggle that individuals and their families face. When the Ice Bucket Challenge happened, people knew what ALS was. It had a ripple effect, increasing care, support, and services. Communities rallied together, creating a surge in awareness and compassion like never before. Families affected by ALS found their voices amplified, and support poured in from all corners. Because of the generosity and kindness from this community, we’ve been able to expand access to vital assistance programs and add new services to offer much-needed support and hope to families facing this relentless disease. Before the Ice Bucket Challenge there were often extensive waiting lists for essential equipment like mobility aids and communication devices. With increased funding, we've been able to invest in areas that will have immediate impact, like providing individuals with the equipment they need to maintain their independence. But our work is far from over. Despite the progress we've achieved over the past decade, there are still many hurdles to overcome. As we strive to see more support for families living with ALS, we invite you to join us in our mission.

Today is #ClinicalTrialsDay. In a world where more and more information are, presumably, obtained through all sorts of tech solutions, #machinelearning, #bigdata #AI, there is still a need for "old fashion" trials. I have seen several times before where data driven analysis do actually produce interesting hypotheses, but how can we trust them? Clinical trials quantifies the #scientific procedure that is needed to find out IF there actaually is a real effect or just a coincidence. Good clinical trials also requires good data handling, data manipulation, analysis plans, procedures for analysis and reporting. #statistics #science
Today we are celebrating #clinicaltrialsday. https://lnkd.in/eDYjHMK

It’s our favorite time of the year, which means our team is out of the office from December 24 through January 3, taking a well-deserved break with family and friends. As 2024 draws to a close, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Georgia Bio community for an extraordinary year. Together, we have continued to advance our shared mission of fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth within the life sciences sector. Last week, we also hosted the final meeting of the year with the Georgia Bio board, sharing our vision for the association’s future growth. A special thank you to our board chair, Steve Damon, for your leadership and vision during a transitional year where we re-emerged as a 501c6 non-profit allowing us to further our policy and advocacy work which our previous designation did not allow. This significant change prepares us to have a stronger voice as we get ready to enter the 2025 legislative session. Our rapidly growing membership is a testament to the energy, diversity, and strength of our community. Your contributions—whether through new ideas, partnerships, or engagement—continue to propel our industry forward and solidify Georgia as a leader in life sciences innovation. Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited to build on the momentum in 2025. Our focus will be to create high-value programs, strengthen collaborations, advocate for the industry and our members at the state and federal level, and open doors to new opportunities that drive progress and improve lives through science. Together, we will tackle challenges, celebrate achievements, and continue shaping the future of the life sciences. On behalf of Georgia Bio, I wish you a joyous holiday season filled with peace, happiness, and inspiration. I look forward to welcoming members at the Georgia Bio State Affiliate Reception at JPMorgan in early January and invite you to Save the Date for a Georgia Bio Member Appreciation reception the evening of Feb. 11th. Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to our mission. Cheers to a bright and impactful 2025! From Maria Thacker Goethe, John Bray, Stacey Bowlin, Melissa Carter, Katie Rogers, and all of us at the Georgia Bio team.

Why am I constantly talking about the importance of integrating advocacy groups across the entire rare disease ecosystem? Because when you empower advocacy groups, you empower patients; and when you empower patients, you change the world. In 2019, CZI invested in 30 patient groups which, on average, "were less than 6 years old with average operating budgets of $375,000. The majority were entirely volunteer-led and few leaders of these organizations had prior non-profit or scientific expertise." Five years later it takes 80 pages just to SUMMARIZE what cycle 1 of the RareAsOne network has accomplished (https://czi.co/3DmzZak). Their impact across rare disease is immeasurable, but here are just a few stats on what they have done.
