April 23 marks the birthday of the United States Army Reserve. Following World War I, under the National Defense Act of 1920, Congress reorganized the United States land forces by authorizing a Regular Army, a National Guard, and an Organized Reserve (Officer Reserve Corps and Enlisted Reserve Corps) of thirty-five divisions, which later became the #ArmyReserve. Can only imagine the energy on those beaches. So many boys become men, so many lives were sacrificed and families change forever. Veterans are now about 6% of the US population down from 18-20% in the 80s (Pew 2022). Find a way to serve others, it will change your perspective on life. Military, volunteer, mentor, something that gives your time, energy and wisdom to others. Service truly gives you a level of pride and honor that is hard to replicate. I am not for mandatory "military" service, but I do find value in having everyone "serve" their community before 25: 1) Service humbles you and builds character 2) Service introduces you to true diversity and relationships 2) Service takes you out of your comfort zone and builds confidence 3) Service makes you feel authentic goodness and be healthier 4) Service give you perspective and learn to give and accept gratitude For this an many other reason, I intently choose to be a SERVANT leader.

With it being Women's History Month, here are the departments and agencies that spend the most using the Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) set-aside. Army, specifically Army Materiel Command and Army Corps of Engineers DoD, specifically DHA, DISA, & DLA DHS, specifically TSA HHS, specifically NIH Commerce, specifically NOAA What's frustrating? The WOSB set-aside is the least used set-aside by spending. Even less than HUBZone and if you are a HUBZone, you know how hard it is to get work just for you. We need to do better.
