My children have lived in 5 and 4 states and have attended 5 and 4 schools from preschool into grade school. They embody strength and resilience in our family, and they deserve all the recognition and respect I can offer them. As a military family, home is wherever we are together. Shoutout to all the military children out there leading the way. — “The average military family moves every 2-3 years. Deployments typically last more than 7 months. 1 out of 3 military children suffer from anxiety. The average military child will change schools 6-9 times in their K-12 years. In 2003, 900 children lost a parent to war. Out of the 1,256 that died, more than 40 never met the child they left behind. April is the month of the military child. Perhaps the most overlooked part of the military family. Leaving a spouse or being left as a spouse is a heart wrenching feeling. Being a child and not understanding why or where they go is inexplicable. To have strength, courage and faith at such a young age is one of the most admirable things I can think of. Please remember these tiny humans this month, and every month, for all the sacrifices they too have to make. No matter the branch or the rank, we are all one family and our children are the strongest of us all.“ ~ words by Alexandra Zeller 💜 #MonthOfTheMilitaryChild #MilitaryKids #MilitaryFamily #ArmyStrong #MilitaryLife #MilitaryChildren #PurpleUp #HonorTheirService #MilitaryAppreciation #AprilAwareness

After months of heartfelt conversations, I am humbled to share that I have completed data collection for my study on the experiences of surviving military siblings coping with the traumatic loss of a sibling in combat. This journey has been both deeply challenging and moving, as I listened to stories that reflect not only the pain of loss but also the enduring love, resilience, and sacrifice that come with being part of a military family. Each participant’s narrative illuminated the complexities of grief, the unique struggles of military losses, and the weight of navigating life without their presence. They shared the quiet moments of longing, the milestones that feel incomplete, and the strength it takes to carry on their sibling’s legacy. This research aims to amplify these voices, not only to deepen our understanding of grief within military families but also to inform policies and support systems tailored to their needs. The experiences shared will undoubtedly shape interventions, counseling approaches, and future conversations around loss and healing. To my participants: thank you for trusting me with your stories. Your courage to share your truth is what makes this work possible. I hope this research honors your siblings and the sacrifices they made. For those following this study, I look forward to analyzing these findings and continuing the work of bridging understanding and compassion for surviving siblings. Together, we can create spaces where their voices are heard and their grief is met with empathy and action. Stay tuned for updates as I move forward. Your support means the world to me and to this critical work. #SiblingGrief #MilitaryFamilies #TraumaticLoss #Resilience #Research #Grief #USArmy #USAirForce #USMarineCorps #USNavy #Bereavement #gapsinresearch #casualtysupport #Honorthefallen #militarystudy #militaryloss #Posttraumaticgrowth #bereavementsupport

Having just put together a new type of #journaling page for the #bulletjournal I currently write my daily notes inside, I thought of a quote to include on this page. Rather than input the quote and repost the page, I thought I'd merely showcase how to use the "lesson" area of this #daytimer note page. Though the first quote I wrote, is related to the recent "remembrance" post I created, this is also tied in to the idea of "recounting" what matters most and encouraging yourself in these things. The first quote I wrote for today says this: "Accounting for everything I've seen thus far, I remember: the noble faithful preserve excellence, whence the hordes perceive it not."-- Kathleen (Kasper-Kat) Armstrong, (w)Holy Ghostwriter Note regarding #quotes to remind you of lessons learned: When I was writing another lesson "Grandpa's Favorite" taught me, I realized this can be tied in with the beginning portion of this quote; thus, the intro of the quote can be used daily. Here is an example using the lesson noted yesterday: "Accounting for everything I've seen thus far, I remember: Loving memories are found in small choices." -- Kathleen (Kasper-Kat) Armstrong, (w)Holy Ghostwriter Whereas, today's "lesson" was written this way: "Accounting for everything I've seen thus far, I remember: It's a true gift when one feels loved and envies not the love expressed to others." --Kathleen (Kasper-Kat) Armstrong, (w)Holy Ghostwriter. Rather than tell you about "Grandpa's Favorite" now-- I'll give you a chance to try this idea for yourself. Try to think of something you smell, and every time you smell it, it reminds you of a person or a specific incident in your life. This could be a pleasant memory or an unpleasant memory. Then consider what lesson that memory holds for you. Plug your lesson, in the quote: "Accounting for everything I've seen thus far, I remember: ... #Remembrance #Military #encouragement connected with the #Psalms Seldom do I post on a Saturday, with few exception. Today's post was inspired when taking a trip to a local cemetery here in Santa Clara, CA known as Mission City Memorial Park. I was sitting amidst the shade of some trees and had stopped at the site of a lieutenant who had died in WWII; a flag was tied to a tree here, faded and worn by the years. My father who had served for many a year was born this day, thus the reason for my visit. Yet, being reminded of a favored chapter in the book "936 Pennies: Discovering the Joy of Intentional Parenting," by Eryn Lynum-- the book points to a well-known passage in the Psalms about recounting how we spend our days on earth; yet, I wonder how many have read the verse just prior to this often-sited verse. I wrote the remembrance when looking at what the flag I looked at was saying to me about earthly wisdom vs Godly wisdom, and the challenges of life. No sooner had I written this, when I looked at the Psalm, I reviewed the entire passage and decided to re-write the verse that sounds rather troubling, but I sense it's often understood very differently. I say this, having seen how this has been paraphrased in a few different Bible versions. When I stopped and reviewed what I had written, I was shocked to see that they seemed to go perfectly together like two pieces of a puzzle, so I decided, I would post this now, while the memory of this was still fresh in my mind. My hope is that it will be an encouragement to consider the greater plans that God has in store for those here who have weathered their share of battles too.
