Planning for your future is an important step to take NOW. I did a quick check last night on my financial situation, the usual checking of bills and account balances. I also check where I am for the long term. What's important to me, and it may be different for you, is maintaining my lifestyle in the future, and having the ability to support my children when they take their first few steps into adulthood. Looking at my pension, I feel glad that I made the decision to invest in one earlier in my career, and it motivated me to share why it's important if you haven't done the same already. Look at the chart below over the last 10 years. The green line is what I invested from my salary cumulatively each year. The orange line is the value of my pension. The value today is 3.4x greater than what I put in! That's a combination of investment growth, employer contributions, and tax incentives. The growth is effectively free money. By the time I retire, my pension will be worth 4x to 6x what I put in. Whether you're early or later in your career, even if you can only put in 1, 2 or 3% of your salary (like I did when I started), start a pension now if you haven't already. You'll be glad you did!

This is a great article from my friend Fritz on how to design your retirement decumulation strategy something many retirees struggle with. While it's written for US folks the mechanics are the same for Canadians. If you are Canadian I suggest you look at Fred Vettesse's book "Retirement Income for Life" it's really good and even better it's an easy read. #retirement #retirementcashflow #longevity

If you fall in this age bracket, wake up and pay attention! 👀 The financial guru is sounding the alarm on something too many overlook: your pension pot. 🏦💼 Here’s the skinny: Lewis is urging you to check if you’re missing out on FREE money that could significantly boost your retirement savings. Yes, you heard that right — potential funds you didn't even know existed! 🚀💪 Here’s what you need to do: 1️⃣ **Check your National Insurance Contribution record.** Missing years could mean missing out on pension contributions. 2️⃣ **Fill in the gaps.** Investigate if you can make voluntary contributions to ensure you aren’t leaving money on the table.
