We recently hosted our annual Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions—a chance for employees to ask me and other execs anything on their minds. One question about career growth sparked a great conversation that’s worth sharing. When it comes to career growth, one thing is clear: you don’t get hired for what you’re not good at—you get hired for what you excel at. In any competitive process, it’s the unique strengths you bring to the table that set you apart. Trying to focus on things you’re not naturally great at can slow you down. Instead, lean into what you do best and make that the quality, which will help you stand out. This doesn’t mean ignoring growth opportunities, but it does mean prioritizing the areas where you already shine and letting those drive your success. So, ask yourself: What’s the one thing you’re the best at? How can you build on that to create more impact? That’s where the magic happens.

Being able to flex around what you're good at and where you want to excel is the true magic. It also involves balancing your core strengths between new innovations and trends.
