A few weeks ago, our Public Health Medicine Specialist, Dr Felicity Williamson Williamson, presented at the New Zealand College of Public Health’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Waitangi. The theme, Imagining our Future: Public Health, Equity, and Indigenous Rights in Aotearoa, set the perfect backdrop for meaningful discussions around the future of healthcare in New Zealand. Felicity shared insights from a recently completed project where Synergia, in partnership with Wai Rangahau, developed guidance to improve equity in diabetes service design and delivery for Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora. Key insights from the hui outlined that improving equity comes from a range of places and spaces: - how and what we measure - how we select and train our workforces - how we partner and work collaboratively - how we present inequities from a strengths based approach - how we empower our communities - how we develop and use critical consciousness. If you would like to discuss the insights shared, we'd love to connect. What are your thoughts on ensuring equity in service design and delivery?

HealthEfficient is Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month in the Pacific Islands AAPI Heritage Month, we honor the rich diversity and cultural heritage of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. As we celebrate the myriad contributions that AAPI individuals have made to our society, we also want to highlight the transformative work being done by HealthEfficient's member community health centers in the Pacific Islands region. We celebrate AAPI professionals' significant contributions to advancing population health and health information technology in the Pacific Islands region. HealthEfficient's nine member community health centers in this region are active participants in the Pacific Islands Electronic Health Initiative, a joint project of HealthEfficient and the Pacific Islands Primary Care Association. The project is driving the adoption and implementation of Electronic Health Records across the region — from American Samoa to Palau. This initiative is a testament to the AAPI community’s commitment to improving healthcare through cutting-edge technology and shared knowledge. As we reflect on the AAPI heritage, it’s initiatives like these that embody the spirit of progress and community upliftment that we seek to celebrate. Indeed, HealthEfficient staff will be visiting our health centers in the Pacific Islands later this month! We are proud to take this opportunity to recognize the significant strides being made in healthcare technology in the Pacific Islands, and how these align with the values we celebrate during AAPI Heritage Month: innovation, community, and resilience. #AAPIHeritageMonth #HealthEquity #CulturalHeritage #DiversityAndInclusion #HITInnovation

As the first light of day touches Chitipa District, our team at the District Hospital Umoyo Clinic is already deep in collaboration, working to enhance the frameworks that uphold our community's health systems. Gathered around a modest table, laden with plans and reports, we're engaged in the vital task of refining the implementation of our care and treatment programs. In healthcare, the robustness of behind-the-scenes systems is a direct determinant of patient care quality. On LinkedIn, where we connect over shared goals of innovation and leadership, I want to shine a light on the meticulous planning and strategic execution that forms the bedrock of impactful healthcare delivery. Today, at Chitipa DHO, we’re not just reviewing documents; we're reinforcing our commitment to our community, ensuring that our health services are not just accessible, but also efficient, effective, and sustainable. In an environment with limited resources, this work is crucial, directly contributing to better health outcomes and broader public health resilience. I'm honored to stand with the Chitipa DHO team as we endeavor to be more than healthcare providers. We are agents of change, steadfast in our mission to forge a healthier future for all. Through initiatives like these, we underscore the essence of leadership in public health. ⚡ This week on the Rural Road to Health we heard from Dr Jaka Strel, a rural family doctor from Slovenia. He will talk about how they built their team and helped Žiri to become the healthiest municipality in Slovenia. 💡 "There is a lack of rural medical education, at present education in this area depends on good rural mentors. There is no extra funding provided for rural practice despite there being higher expenses for work in rural areas." 💡 "ŽirFit - a health promotion activity organized with sport experts, primary school leaders and people from industry. Organized measurement of 12 parameters of physical fitness such as strength, balance and agility. This happens every year on the third weekend of May. Usually attended by about 100 people. After the testing the patients receive advice from a kinesiologist and doctor on how to optimize their health. This is the key to success - working with the community." 💡 "Biggest challenge was to find suitably motivated colleagues with the right professional knowledge and personal qualities. Decided to grow the team gradually. It is important to have a good team and take care of their wellbeing and opportunity for personal and professional development." https://lnkd.in/exirmQ3S #RuralHealth #RuralHealthCareers #RuralCommunities #RuralEurope #PHC #Slovenia

🎥 🌎 Empathy & Compassion: Fuel for Care 💔💡 After recent travels to Greece, I found myself more deeply reflecting on the weight we carry as healthcare providers—much like Atlas, tasked with bearing the world. This journey has reignited something in me: the importance of #empathy, the very spark that gives rise to #compassion. Echoing my previous post: In healthcare, we often shoulder immense responsibilities. Compassion fatigue can settle in, but empathy is what keeps us fully present, allowing us to give our best. To my fellow “Atlases” in this field: ❓How do you keep empathy alive, even under such weight? ❓How do we instill this important #skill in our new providers? Let’s share what helps us stay open and resilient, so we can continue serving with #compassion. I'll start in comments below. First ever Global Oral Health Meeting has concluded with a remarkable positive outcome which is the formulation and endorsement of the Bangkok Declaration. What a week it has been and grateful are our hearts to share our experiences, successes and challenges faced by WHO member states with regards to Oral Health Services within their own respective Health Systems. The Rapid Oral Health Assessment and Roadmap provided by WHO was a game changer and an enabling tool for all countries to identify priorities and put them into actionable steps and strategically align them with GOHAP. For Samoa - our priority has been set and we hope to ride on this encouraging momentum so that our first ever National Oral Health Policy will eventuate next year - 2025! With such policy being put into place, we hope to see Oral Health being intergrated into Primary Health Care so that Universal Health Coverage can be strengthened and achieved for our people. As participants of this first GOHM our cups have runneth over with gratitude and appreciation of the hosting Country- The Kingdom of Thailand and WHOs Technical Team and associates for facilitating the entire Meeting. "The time for diagnosing our problems is over, it is time to treat and operate on our problems" - Director WPRO As Oral Health Professionals we are the gatekeepers and servants of our Oral Health system and services. We were kindly reminded by Dr Saia Piukala in his inspiring speech, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others" - Mahatma Ghandi. In one Samoan proverb "The path to Leadership is through service and serving others". There is NO Health WITHOUT ORAL HEALTH 🫶 #GOHM #GOHAP2030 #BangkokDeclaration2024

Today, as we commemorate World Health Day under the theme "My Health, My Right," we are reminded of the fundamental principle that health is a human right, not a privilege. This year's theme underscores the importance of ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has equitable access to healthcare and the opportunity to lead a healthy life. At HUMANIZE Malaysia, we firmly believe in the empowerment of individuals to take charge of their health and well-being. In a world where health disparities persist, it is crucial to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote health equity and remove barriers to access healthcare services. On this day, let us reflect on the significance of prioritizing our health and the health of our communities. Whether it's making informed choices about nutrition and exercise, seeking preventive care, or advocating for better healthcare services, each of us has a role to play in advancing the right to health for all. Let us also recognize the efforts of healthcare professionals, frontline workers, and public health advocates who work tirelessly to ensure that everyone receives the care and support they need. Their dedication and commitment to promoting health and well-being inspire us all. As we celebrate World Health Day, let us recommit ourselves to building a world where everyone can enjoy their right to health, free from discrimination and inequality. Together, let us strive to create a healthier, more equitable future for generations to come. #WorldHealthDay #MyHealthMyRight #HealthForAll #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #CommunityWellbeing #GlobalHealth #Empowerment #TogetherWeCan
