[Update Book] One thing women in tech need right now
This weekend I’m doing a deep dive into the survey results for the book “How women in Tech Succeed Worldwide”, which I’m co-writing with Fionnuala O'Conor.
I’m in awe of the generosity of these 450+ women from 60+ countries. There is no sugar coating. They tell it as they live it.
Yesterday, I focused on the challenges women in tech tell us that they are experiencing now.
It was heartbreaking to read some of the stories. And there are definitively common themes across ages, geographies, and sectors.
One of those is “Not being taken seriously”
It’s like a mantra. Keeps coming up on the responses.
Depending on the woman, it comes through with
- Regret
- Anger
- Helplessness
- Surprise
- Fatigue…
This is not something on women in tech’s head. This is real.
Women in tech want to be contributing but their contributions are ignored.
The uncomfortable truth is that this is not something that women can change. This needs a cultural change that extricates misogyny and patriarchy from your organisation.

🌟 Women in Tech: A Post-Women's Day Reflection 🌟
As the wave of women in tech posts by organizations subsides after the womens day, the bigger question is: What do we do to stop women from dropping off from the workforce ? May be we need a campaign like "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) -- one that actively brings back women who've temporarily stepped away and are now eager to return. 💪
IMO women in tech should focus more on actively supporting, mentoring, and provide resources to women looking to re-enter the workforce. May be a "Beti back in tech" campaign is needed ... ????

When Kristen Born and I began brainstorming ideas for International Women's Day at Swyftx this year, we were both on the same page: we wanted to organise something meaningful that would truly impact our team members, providing them with tangible takeaways. And I'm pleased to say we achieved just that.
Last week, we hosted an intimate workshop for our female colleagues with the brilliant Cherie Curtis. It was an ✨ AMAZING ✨ session, filled with insightful stories and invaluable learnings from Cherie. We delved into crucial topics such as imposter syndrome and burnout (both of which I've experienced firsthand), and the importance of 'seeking to stretch' and getting comfortable in the uncomfortable, in order to achieve both personal and professional growth. There was so many great takeaways, and we all left with a little home work so that we can continue to keep developing ourselves over the course of the year.
I also collaborated with our very talented in-house videographer, Daniel Guerrero, to create a video spotlighting some of the exceptional women we have at Swyftx. There are so many things I wish I knew or that someone had told me when first starting out in my professional career, and this video aims to share some of the wisdom and advice that our team has learnt along the way.
Whether you're just starting out or you're further along in your career, these insights serve as valuable reminders of the importance of continuous growth and supporting one another in the workplace, not just on days like International Womens Day, but every day.
