In 2010, a powerful global movement was sparked when LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies spoke three words that would echo hope and resilience — "it gets better." This simple yet profound message ignited a wildly successful social media campaign, with over 70,000 individuals sharing their stories to offer solace and encouragement to young members of the LGBTQ+ community. Today, It Gets Better stands as a prominent global non-profit organization, touching the lives of millions of young people annually. Through an array of inspiring media initiatives, educational resources, and a network of international affiliates spanning 19 countries, It Gets Better provides vital support and access to community-based services. https://lnkd.in/gbA9BEfe #abbysoulproductions #resources #itgetsbetter #againsthomophobia

Happy Pride Month!!! 🏳️🌈 As we celebrate, let’s remember that Pride isn’t just about parades and parties; it’s about community, understanding, and taking action. Here are some thoughtful ways to celebrate Pride with your colleagues and friends: 🌈 Learn and Grow: Attend talks or workshops that focus on LGBTQ+ history and issues. Knowledge is the ally’s best tool! 🌈 Connect Through Creativity: Organize a get-together to create Pride-themed art or crafts. It’s a fun way to express support and add a personal touch to the celebration. 🌈 Support Through Giving: Identify and donate to charities that work tirelessly for LGBTQ+ causes. Every little bit helps! 🌈 Join the Parade: There’s power in numbers! March in your local Pride parade to show solidarity and support for LGBTQ+ rights. 🌈 Advocate for Change: Use this month to start conversations about inclusivity in your workplace. Encourage policy reviews to ensure everyone feels safe and valued. Pride Month is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equal rights. Let’s use this month to reflect on our progress towards equality and to recommit to creating a workplace that celebrates diversity every day. ❤️ #PrideMonth #LoveIsLove #UnityInDiversity #StandWithPride #Inclusion #Diversity

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of giving a guest lecture at Skidmore College for June Paul (they)’s Working With LGBTQ+ Populations class. My lecture focused on the history and experiences of LGBTQ+ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). As I sit in the collective sadness and grief of recent events, I want to share some main points from the lecture and discussion with the students. They make me feel hopeful for what we can *ALL* do to protect the rights and amplify the work of marginalized communities everywhere. Our key points of conversation from the lecture: 🤝🏾 Support systems made by LGBTQ+ BIPOC for LGBTQ+ BIPOC already exist outside of corporations and the non-profit industrial complex. For many years, marginalized communities have supported each other through grassroots community organizing. We'll continue to do so, stronger than ever. ❓ Stay curious about everything. An important part of advocacy and allyship is continuing to listen, learn, and grow. 💗 It is never too late – there are so many ways to get involved! Whether you're organizing local initiatives, sharing resources, or simply having difficult conversations with those in your community, these are all ways to make a difference. No matter how big the setback or barrier, our communities have remained resilient through the power of collective organizing. The future can still be bright, and I have hope for the community organizing to come. Let's get to work! ✊🏽

Happy Pride Month! Every year, June is our opportunity to celebrate, honor, commemorate, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. We take a moment to reflect on the past. We pay tribute. We spend time in community with each other. We dance! We remember that each one of us, regardless of our sexual orientation or identity, is worthy of #belonging. So where do we start the celebration? There are so many impactful (and fun) ways to celebrate #Pride. Here are my top three ways to get involved this month: 1. Get Out There: Be a part of your community. Support your local Pride events. Attend fundraisers, parades, marches, and festivals. Donate your time or money. Write your local legislators. Get involved. And read books! 2. Gain Local Knowledge: Do you know the history of Pride Month where you live? What are some of the struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community in your town or city? What are the some of the issues currently being faced right in your backyard? We need to all be better educated because knowledge is key to change. 3. Be an Ally: Stand in solidarity, whether you're a part of the LGBTQ+ community or an #ally. Use your voice and privilege to always speak up. While going to events and celebrations is always a great time, keep in mind that this month is about the fight for #equality, justice, and the right to be who you are. Let's embrace this spirit of diversity and inclusion during Pride Month and beyond. Because when we do, we create spaces where we can all be free to live authentically and thrive. Because love is love, is love, is love. Happy Pride! 🌈

Is this a little late to post for Trans Day of Visibility back in March? Maybe. But it’s not too late for Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 In honor of celebrating the LGBTQ+ community this month, I wanted to share this powerful piece of work I got a chance to be apart of for MAC Cosmetics! MAC has been a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, donating millions of dollars to support equality, providing gender-affirming care through beauty services and products, and being a safe space for queer individuals to explore and express themselves. To help MAC announce their newest VIVA GLAM grantee and partner, The Trevor Project, we created this beautiful video that highlighted the role makeup plays in self-discovery and identity expression. 💋Career Learning: I served as the Director of Scripts on and off set, where I helped craft the conversation to feel informative, authentic, and inspirational. It was important that the narrative not only checked the legal and marketing boxes, but that it ultimately centered trans joy rather than struggle. I learned that to tell an authentic story, you have to leave room for the talent or subject to actually tell theirs and not over-produce it. 💋LGBTQ+ Ally Learning: As an ally, I try to constantly listen and learn to best support the community. To be honest, it got difficult on set at times. Emotions were high as we covered difficult self-discovery moments and discussed overcoming very hard and very real obstacles. I learned that even when there’s a job to do, humanity comes first. Give space for your talent to feel and process as they’re telling their story. A few extra breaks and words of encouragement can go a long way. Super grateful for this experience and proud to have been apart of a team that values good storytelling, good production, and good causes ❤️💄 (Shoutout to the MAC Mustache crew who I won’t tag for the sake of post length 🥲) Check out the video here: https://lnkd.in/eP67G3Jp #beauty #maccosmetics #trevorproject #transvisibility #pridemonth #copywriter

Johanna Moya Fábregas, Ph.D. visits the SnapCast. Dr. Fábregas is the Executive Director of Con Mi MADRE, a nonprofit dedicated to #empowering Latina girls and their loved ones through education and emotional support. We talk about Texas State Bill-Seventeen, which is known informally as “the anti-DEI law,” shutting down diversity, equity and inclusion offices like university LGBTQ+ centers. Among the things we discuss: * SB-17 is changing the nonprofit landscape, it's important to "SB-17 proof" your organization * Difficult decisions must be made when you lead a nonprofit and the important thing is looking at the big picture and moving towards the decision that will ensure sustainable growth * Even during difficult times, the goal is to continue supporting all participants to the best of our ability * How can an organization that's run for 20 years continue to run for the next two decades? https://lnkd.in/emw4QvuW
