What is Hispanic Heritage Month? 🌎 Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, recognizes the contributions, culture, and achievements of Hispanic and Latinx communities in the U.S. The starting date was chosen because it marks the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16 and Chile on September 18. 🎉Celebrating and recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month is important for organizations because it fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion, making Hispanic employees feel valued while educating others about the rich contributions of the Hispanic community. How can we better illuminate Hispanic heritage in our workplaces?🌎 As someone who grew up as one of the only Puerto Rican families in my Pittsburgh neighborhood, I know how important it is to feel seen and valued. I grew up surrounded by diversity, attending a Catholic school in a Jewish neighborhood, and making friends from all walks of life. But, like many, I also experienced rejection, racism, and exclusion. It was confusing and painful, but it never stopped me from loving people and embracing diverse experiences. 💛 It’s these experiences that drive my passion for creating inclusive workplaces, where everyone feels they belong. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 (September 15th - October 15th), is an opportunity for companies to foster more meaningful connections with their diverse workforce.
