Here are some things to know about SCA: ❤️ SCA is the third leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 356,000 lives each year & more than 23,000 of those affected are young people under 18 years old ❤️ SCA can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any time ❤️ Bystanders who quickly perform CPR and use an AED can more than double survival rates ❤️ CPR and AED training is widely available, and the techniques are easy to learn Cardiac RMS supports this effort for people to learn more about how to help someone in distress from SCA. Buying an AED is not enough. Organizations must have an Emergency Action Plan and trained first responders that drill regularly. AEDs should be installed in conspicuous locations with proper signage, and organizations should have a system to ensure they are always in rescue-ready mode. This week has been truly exciting, highlighted by the nominations for the Niche Biz Awards 2025 opening and the reveal of the 2024 Awards highlights and reactions, not to mention the opening of the Leicester ice rink. However, the most impactful experience for me was the CPR training session provided by Heartwize. At the start of this week, I had limited knowledge about CPR and didn't even know where the nearest defibrillator was located. Thanks to the insightful training from Heartwise, I now have a deeper understanding of the critical importance of CPR. I learned about the defibfinder UK app, which helps locate the nearest defibrillator, and discovered that performing CPR is much more challenging than I initially thought. The training emphasised how crucial it is to keep blood circulating throughout the body to increase a person's chances of survival during cardiac emergencies. This newfound knowledge has been invaluable, and I am incredibly grateful to Heartwise for their guidance and expertise. Here’s a sneak peek into some of the training which involved placing an unconscious person who is breathing into the recovery position. 🩺 November is CPR Month! 🩺 Did you know that bystander CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival in a cardiac emergency? When every second counts, knowing what to do can make all the difference. You don’t need any special equipment or training to help—just remember these 3 simple steps: 1️⃣ Hands on the Center of the Chest – Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest, with your other hand on top. Interlock your fingers and keep your arms straight. 2️⃣ Push Deep and Fast – Compress the chest at least 2 inches deep at a rate of about 100-120 beats per minute (think of the rhythm of “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees). 3️⃣ Repeat – Continue chest compressions until medical help arrives or someone else can take over. This November, take a few minutes to learn the basics. You never know when you might be the one to save a life! #CPRSavesLives #CPRMonth #BystanderCPR
