Happy #IVD2024 and a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers for the vital impact you have on Dixon Hall in serving Downtown East Toronto. Your work strengthens the communities we serve and helps create a city where everyone thrives. Whether you contributed to our meal services, shelters, music programming, networking events or contributed in any other way, you were an important part of the 15,000 hours donated by over 1,300 volunteers in the last year. You are the backbone of our mission, and we couldn’t do any of this without you! Have a happy holiday season and we look forward to your continued support in the new year.🧡💙

There is more to consider than your final arrangements when thinking about your death. Who gets your comic book collection? Where do you want your clothes donated? There are so many small things to sort out that take away from your loved ones time to grieve. The kindest thing to do is to take time to consider these things and pick a hand full of people you trust to execute these plans for you. Give them one last chance to show their love for you.

The Act of Giving The idea of giving is a fundamental aspect of human interaction that fosters connection, empathy, and community. It could be from charitable donations, an act of kindness, teaching a skill free of charge etc. The act of giving is profoundly significant, offering a deep sense of purpose and fulfilment. Numerous studies have shown that giving can increase personal happiness and life satisfaction. You support those in need by creating change and impacting them positively. The idea of giving transcends mere transactions. It is a powerful force change, by embracing a mindset of generosity and incorporation we change lives and enrich ours. Every act of giving contributes to more compassionate and connected world. Giving has its Ripple effects: You inspire others, you create a change. Please don't buy anything right now to help you feel your feelings. I am alarmed at how many emails, texts, & posts I see asking for your donation to "fight," "fix," or "learn" something. What a vulnerable time to alleviate, sell, or resolve what's going on for folks. I am thankful to folks, orgs, and communities who are space-makers...creating sessions to be in #community. I am thankful to those folks offering words--yours or someone else's--to acknowledge you are not alone and the things you care about still matter. I hope you have someone(s) or places you feel cared for, seen, & heard. Please do what feels right to you...and trust IT...not someone else's paid for solution.

The Daesy Dialogue is a talking toolkit I've created that offers parents and caregivers a map of what to say and how to say it in heightened emotional moments with their young child. It's full of practical, straightforward and down to earth suggestions/prompts that can support young children's emotional wellbeing. My motivation to write The Daesy Dialogue has been two-fold: firstly, a desire to highlight the positive influence we can have, as parents and caregivers, in contributing to our child's emotional health and development through meanigful conversations; and secondly, to emphasise the importance of connection and the benefits reaped. PRE-ORDER YOUR BOOK - I would love your help in my Pay It Forward campaign with Crowdfunder. By pre-ordering The Daesy Dialogue handbook you help raise funds for bringing this book to life AND receive a book in hand. Read about The Daesy Dialogue by clicking on the link and support/share where you can. Your donation or book purchase means a huge amount to small businesses like mine, working tirelessly to make a positive difference in people's lives. https://lnkd.in/et28Z9Nw Clare x

How do you start your workday? ☕️🧘🏽♀️👩💻 I grab coffee, say my morning meditation, 💻 15 minutes of yoga and I am online. Or maybe you wake up, roll over and grab your phone and check email. We press the button and viola! Wi-Fi. Access to the world. 🌎 Easy right? Not for everyone. A finding by US Census Data shows that 11.5 million people don’t have access to a internet at home. Almost 200,000 homes use dial up. ☎️ In Austin, there’s a great organization that’s trying to make sure that everyone can’t get access to what has become one of the most important aspects of our lives. A connection to the rest of the world. A connection to jobs, opportunity, the news, and family lives far away. Not only that, they provide computer literacy training which is essential for today’s workforce, help people become digital ambassadors and much more. 🧑🏾💻🧑🏼💻👩🏿💻 If you shop using the link below, it’s a way to to give to an organization who’s trying to give others what we take for granted daily. 🙏 #ctn #iGive #ShopforaCause

If you like reading stats checkout the below from our most recent PAK'nSAVE 2 week campaign for the local Social Supermarket. - $10,975 paid forward - 2,989 acts of generosity - 439 people impacted 85% of consumers chose a pre selected amount. - 47% donated 1% of their basket size - $2,382 - 22% donated 2% of their basket size - $2,178 - 16% donated 5% of their basket size - $2,986 Although this is super impressive it was encouraging to see that - 15% of consumers chose to select their own amount which came to $3,413 (31% of the overall generosity). These stats are very consistent with other campaign results which continues to remind me of 2 things. 1. Generosity has to be made easy. 2. Giving consumers choice is super important and aligned to generosity.

"We are on a mission to feed hungry, join us and help us to achieve this mission. For donations please contact 0300-XXXXXX" Stop right here! Before choosing to help indirectly using a third party , which you will never know whom they helped. Ask yourself "Is there no one around me, who needs help and whom I can help directly? " Every single day there is an opportunity to be the giver, to be the bigger person but what we do is ignore it. Help people in your own capacity, like our Prophet(PBUH), no one has ever returned empty handed from his door. if he has nothing he would offer a piece of date. So do accept the opportunity rather then refusal, you might think giving little wont make a difference but it does discharge your obligation. And when everyone is discharging his responsibility it does make society a better place. And trust me the satisfaction when you feed a hungry, when you buy them clothes, when you pay their bills is priceless. (Disclaimer: These are my personal POV and not meant to discourage donations to approved, authentic NPOs serving bigger purpose)

There are persistent challenges faced by Indigenous communities, particularly in remote areas where infrastructure like libraries and bookstores is lacking. This limited access to reading materials hampers literacy development, which is foundational to further educational achievement. The gap in infrastructure and access to educational resources underscores the ongoing need for targeted investment in these communities. - Consider becoming a regular donor or a Literacy Champion -Organise a book drive to collect new, culturally appropriate books that can be donated to the ILF for distribution to remote Indigenous communities. - Participate in and promote Indigenous Literacy Day - Support Indigenous Authors and Storytellers - Encourage your company to partner with the ILF through sponsorships, corporate donations, or by providing in-kind support such as resources or expertise.

Please consider supporting this initiative and help unleash the inner voices of those who are non-speaking or minimally speaking. This population has been grossly under estimated and under served. They are BRILLIANT and deserve to be heard! Your donation = -Scholarships for local Nonspeaking & Minimally Speaking individuals to access alternative communication (i.e., spelling to communicate/letterboards) -Community building for Nonspeaking individuals and their families in NE Ohio -Public education on global Apraxia & helping to shift the inaccurate assumption that non-speaking means non-thinking https://lnkd.in/eztv7nZ5
