🏔️ Work Extremes 🏔️ I've been quiet on LinkedIn for the past two months due to a surge in workload and travel, making it challenging to stay active here. We all face periods of peak workload, and our ability to manage these times defines our effectiveness. Here are three key considerations: 1️⃣ **Delegation:** When workload increases, delegate. Think of your responsibilities as a mix of big and small rocks. The big rocks are critical tasks that demand your attention and have significant consequences if not done well. As new high-priority tasks come in, delegate smaller rocks to your team. This not only helps you manage your workload but also allows your team to grow and take on more responsibilities. 2️⃣ **Delegation Requires Support:** Effective delegation isn’t just passing tasks down. 📩 Explain why you're delegating, what they should gain, and the expected outcomes. Some team members can handle specific tasks with clear deliverables, while others are ready for broader challenges. Know who is ready for what and maintain regular communication to support them. Simply offloading work without follow-up is not a strategy. 3️⃣ **Stop Low-Value Work:** Reallocate your remaining priorities by asking, “What can I stop doing?” 🚫 Identify routine tasks that don't offer significant value, meetings that no longer fit your role, or tasks that can be paused to see the impact. Cutting even an hour of unnecessary weekly meetings can free up 50 hours over a year to tackle new priorities. Who wouldn't like an extra week a year to devote to your priorities? 🛠️ How is delegation going in your workplace? Are you managing your workload effectively by delegating and stopping low-value tasks? 📚 For those looking to improve their management skills, I highly recommend "The Effective Manager" by Mark Horstman. It's an essential read for new leaders, covering the basics, including effective delegation.

Thriving Under Pressure: A Modern Workplace Tale In today’s corporate jungle, "THERE IS A LOT OF PRESSURE" is the anthem of every office. Picture Karan, a Sr. Leader at a firm, juggling back-to-back meetings, high revenue targets, managing difficult stakeholders, and a flood of information. His team depends on him, but the relentless pressure leaves him feeling drained and overwhelmed. This scenario mirrors the reality for many professionals today. I asked Karan's Team: What is Pressure? The team described it as the constant need to deliver more with fewer resources and less time. I asked the team: how does it impact them? - They felt stressed and burned out. - The overall pressure resulted in mistakes and a diminished ability to think creatively and critically at work. I asked Karan: how does it impact you? - He found it difficult to maintain composure, which he understands is crucial for keeping the team's morale high. - Pressure often led to impulsive decisions rather than strategic ones, making the solutions more short-term than long-term. I spoke to more teams, Senior Leaders and colleagues from Industry and discovered these effective strategies for handling pressure: 🖐️ Pause: Taking a moment to assess the situation before reacting helps in making thoughtful decisions. 🖐️ Focus on Solutions: Prioritizing solutions over problems reduces stress and keeps the team productive. 🖐️ Delegate: Leaders can reduce stress by delegating tasks and trusting their team. Trust reduces stress and empowers team members. 🖐️ Long-Term View: Focusing on long-term goals helps maintain stability and direction during challenging times. Understanding that most crises are temporary can help leaders and employees stay calm. 🖐️ Simplify: Keeping tasks simple and priorities clear reduces complexity and stress. 🖐️ Encourage Peer Support: Fostering a supportive environment where team members help each other creates a positive work culture. 🖐️ Practice Active Listening: Effective conflict resolution and stress management begin with active listening, ensuring everyone feels heard and valued. Pressure is today's reality of the job, but it can be managed to avoid becoming a constant burden. As Jeff Bezos said, By adopting the right strategies and maintaining a proactive attitude, pressure can be transformed into a driving force for growth and success. #WorkPressure #Stress #Workplace #Engagement #Leadership #Coaching #Learning #Pressure #Team #HR

In today’s fast-paced work environment, time/attention is our most precious resource—and yet, it’s the one we waste most easily. Whether you’re an employee, executive, or C-suite leader, time/attention-wasting activities not only hinder productivity but also drain our mental energy, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and unfulfilled. For employees, studies show that distractions are the top time/attention waster. According to research by Gloria Mark, it takes an average of 23 minutes to refocus after an interruption. Constant notifications and meetings that could have been emails pull employees away from deep, focused work, stunting creativity and job satisfaction. For executives, poorly structured meetings are the biggest culprit. A report by Harvard Business Review found that executives spend an average of 23 hours per week in meetings, and a staggering 71% of them feel these meetings are unproductive or inefficient. Imagine how much more strategic work could be accomplished with better meeting management! At the C-level, decision fatigue becomes a significant time/attention-waster. Senior leaders are tasked with making hundreds of decisions daily, leading to mental exhaustion. Research by Stanford University reveals that decision fatigue can reduce productivity by 20-30%, causing even the most critical leaders to lose time to indecision or delayed decision-making. How can we reclaim our time/attention? Prioritize deep work: Block time for uninterrupted work and minimize distractions to improve focus and job satisfaction. Optimize meetings: Make meetings shorter, focused, and essential. Challenge whether the meeting adds real value to your goals. Limit decision fatigue: Delegate non-critical decisions to free mental space for what truly matters. Let’s stop treating time/attention like it's infinite. Every minute saved is an opportunity to lead with greater purpose and impact. Every week, I watch talented leaders burn themselves out trying to do it all. They're first to arrive, last to leave, and perpetually buried in tasks – yet their to-do lists keep growing. I used to be that leader, wearing my 80-hour workweeks like a badge of honor. Until I realized: working longer hours wasn't making me more effective, just more exhausted. The breakthrough came when I shifted from glorifying hustle to prioritizing impact. Here are three strategies that transformed my approach: 1. Time-block your "deep work" hours. Schedule 2-3 hour chunks for your most critical tasks when your energy peaks. Guard these hours fiercely – no meetings, no emails, no interruptions. 2.Practice strategic incompleteness. Not every task deserves your best effort. I use the 80/20 rule: identify which 20% of tasks drive 80% of results, then deliberately decide which items can be "good enough." 3.Build thinking time into your schedule. Block 30 minutes daily for reflection and planning. It feels counterintuitive when you're busy, but this investment prevents costly mistakes and helps identify smarter solutions. Remember: Productivity isn't about doing more things – it's about doing the right things better. #productivity #smartwork #growth
