In case you missed it, we decided to make less money from our customers. (The TL;DR is that we see staffing agencies that make 2.4x the money the developer they place is making. We don’t think that’s right, so we are charging a transparent, separate flat fee.) Since we build in public, let me talk to you about what that means for our business. Our competitors use the old opaque model that takes a high margin. That also means we can’t afford to do business the way our competitors do it. This, of course, means we have to change our GTM strategy. Lucky for us, most staffing augmentation companies rely on traditional sales motions. Not referrals… Which is how we get almost all of our business. We are taking this as a great sign - we’re doing things differently. But, as Bryce Roberts says, doing things differently doesn’t matter if you don’t win. So, we’re going to keep caring about our customers, supporting our developers…and see what we can accomplish. We manage all of our own properties. It is one of the biggest challenges in our business. Responding to urgent fire drills at properties. Hiring and firing vendors. Dealing with customer issues. It is not easy. But here is why we remain committed to in-house property management: --> As an owner, no one is going to give your properties as much love and attention as you would. No one has a greater incentive than the owner to go the extra mile when it comes to property management. A lot of the practices we have put in place are things that I couldn’t ever expect a third-party vendor to do for us. --> The data and insights you get from managing operations at the ground floor are priceless. It helps us see pitfalls and opportunities more clearly on new deals. It helps us better understand the characteristics of what makes certain markets good or bad. And it helps us constantly refine our value-add approach to any deals we do.
