Het Lidl GB ! If you create or have cloud services which by default shut down when free tier is reached, or shuts down when pre-payed usage is used up, so that I never risk an overage, I will switch to you today, and never look at aws, azure or gke ever again! Also, if you keep all training material clean and basic, instead of bloating it with frameworsk for frontend and garbage like Spring for backend, you will win most devs, who will bring the skills to work and chose you for work also. Of course feel free to make training materials for those who use spring and spring boot also, but don’t let that be the default or goto, let the goto be as vanilla as posible. Gogogo!
Remember how Amazon branched from an online retail platform to a cloud-computing powerhouse? Now Lidl is doing the same. Lidl - the European discount retailer - now has a cloud provider business ☁ Remember the story of how AWS started some 20 years ago, as the Amazon retailer wanted to solve its own IT infrastructure needs? Now Lidl and its owner Schwarz Group are pulling the proverbial AWS play, and spinning off its internal IT unit, Schwarz Digits, into a standalone operating division, which competes with AWS. According to a recent article by the Financial Times - it has positioned itself as a credible regional challenger against the likes of AWS, Google, and Microsoft. Lidl disrupted retail with low-cost groceries - can it similarly disrupt cloud computing with its Schwarz Digits brand? According to Financial Times, it generated €1.9 billion in sales last year and has signed on major clients like SAP and Bayern Munich. So this is most definitely no fringe experiment. This move is not just an isolated case but part of a broader trend in Europe towards sovereign cloud computing. European countries such as Germany and Austria have stringent privacy and data protection laws, and they are looking for sovereign clouds that operate wholly within the EU. I can't wait to see people migrate apps to LKS ( Lidl Kubernetes Service ) and how Lidl Bucket and Strasse53 could soon be a real thing 😁 Find articles about Lidl's expansion into the cloud market in the comments section below ⬇ #cloudcomputing #europe #technology

Carrefour Belgium, a titan in the Belgian retail landscape, found itself at a crossroads. With problems in its IT infrastructure and a patchwork of store-level data centers, the company faced growing pains in maintaining consistent operations and customer experiences across its numerous locations. The challenge was twofold: modernize without disruption and create a foundation for future innovation. We at Kyndryl built a step-by-step solution to help Carrefour with their issue. First, we migrated Carrefour's core systems to Kyndryl's state-of-the-art Tier 3+ Hybrid Cloud Data Center in southern Belgium. This wasn't just any migration; it was a seamless transition of 100% of on-premises systems without a single minute of downtime. The next issue for Carrefour was that "one small data center per store" was holding them back. The solution? A leap to Google Cloud Platform, orchestrated by Kyndryl using Red Hat Ansible. This move transformed store operations, replacing outdated PCs in storage rooms with a sleek, centralized cloud infrastructure. Whether managing inventory or handling accounts, Carrefour could now offer consistency across all locations, ensuring that a customer's experience in Brussels matched that in Antwerp. But this transformation wasn't just about today; it was about tomorrow. By centralizing its computing environment, Carrefour gained the agility to react swiftly to issues and the flexibility to onboard new services rapidly. We strive to solve such problems at Kyndryl. We aim to assist the client in their lifecycle when it comes to cloud management solutions. With retail being dynamic and ever-changing in Belgium, Carrefour Belgium now stands poised at the forefront, ready to adapt, innovate, and deliver exceptional experiences to its customers, all powered by the cloud. #CloudMigration #DigitalTransformation #DataCenter #RetailTechnology #CustomerExperience #SeamlessMigration
