Earlier this month The Chronicle of Philanthropy published my discussion on Veterans and the need for nonprofits to seek them out for volunteer roles. I share my passion for Hagar and how I got there based on my experiences and heart for Afghanistan. T/M Rob Lawrence, MBA #veteran #service #leadership Service After Serving:
SVP, Commercial and Treasury Technology at Georgia's Own Credit Union | Board Member | Veteran | Volunteer | Non-Profit
To all my fellow Veterans, including Deborah Manzanares who wrote this article, I Thank You for your continuing service in so many deserving causes and non-profit organizations. In this article, Deb highlights why veterans are highly suited for nonprofit roles, emphasizing their dedication, resilience, and mission-oriented mindset. Veterans have a strong commitment to service, a deep understanding of sacrifice, and the skills to handle challenging environments. These traits make them ideal for nonprofit work, especially in roles supporting under-resourced communities, mental health initiatives, or disaster relief. Encouraging nonprofits to actively recruit veterans, Deb shares the how their unique experiences can bring meaningful impact to organizations and the communities they serve. I am proud to have served in uniform with Debbie and am prouder still to have the opportunity to continue to serve with her on the Board of Directors for Hagar USA (https://lnkd.in/ejR59PAb). 🌟 NonprofitSpotlight: Yellow Ribbon Fund 🌟 This Veterans Day, I’m shining a spotlight on the Yellow Ribbon Fund and their commitment to empowering military caregivers and families through their Keystone and Crossroads Programs. 💛 🔹 Keystone Program: Did you know there are over 1.1 million military caregivers in the U.S. assisting post-9/11 service members? These caregivers manage households, provide consistent care, and navigate emotional and financial challenges. Yellow Ribbon Fund’s Keystone Program steps in to offer: ✔️ Career Development opportunities 💼 ✔️ Health & Wellness education 🧘 ✔️ Respite and peer support 🤝 🔹 Crossroads Program: During a service member’s recovery, the Crossroads Program ensures families can stay close by providing fully furnished housing, hotel stays, and transportation at no cost. By keeping families together during critical moments, this program strengthens bonds and fosters hope in difficult times. 🏡🚗 Yellow Ribbon Fund reminds us that true support uplifts everyone involved. 💪🏿 Take a moment to learn more about what they do and see how you can support them. ✨ Link in comments ⬇️ #VeteransDay #MilitaryCaregivers #NonprofitSpotlight #SupportFamilies

ONE’s updated Position Paper on Veterans' Policy For your awareness, please find ONE’s updated Position Paper on Veterans Policy. ONE receives assistance from many quarters in support of veterans of the Defence Forces. This has enabled the organisation to: 1. Open and sustain its current four homes 2. Develop fifteen veterans support centres and thirty – three branches nationwide 3. Plan the delivery of additional homes 4. Put in place a range of supports for veterans, with specific focus on mental health support. The sustainability of the aforementioned must be ensured and ONE believes that the facts we have created on the ground should be enshrined in a Government Veterans’ Policy thereby ensuring continued support for veterans in need. This support will be strengthened by research into areas affecting veterans and fortified by having a cross governmental agency tasked with co-ordinating the delivery of Veterans’ Policy – The Office of Veteran Affairs. ONE recommends that the next Programme for Government includes: * A commitment to develop a comprehensive Veterans’ Policy. * A reaffirmation of the commitment to establish an Office of Veterans Affairs. Download the paper here: https://lnkd.in/eWKcxGT9 Kind Regards, Cormac Kirwan Chief Executive Officer Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann/Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (ONE) ONE’s primary objective is to support the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless and other veterans in need of such domestic accommodation in its Veterans’ Homes and the provision of other advice and support to veterans, in particular Mental Health advice, through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans’ Support Centres. Military Special Operation Family Collaborative’s (MSOFC) founding work revealed concerning challenges impacting America’s warfighting families. A mere 13% of families from Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps special operations units felt their basic needs were met, while only 18% of spouses felt able to pursue personal goals. Alarmingly, service members were delaying essential healthcare for an average of 13+ years. The intensity of service in special ops resonates profoundly throughout the entire SOF family. MSOFC raises awareness to SOF pitfalls and emphasizes the development of healthy foundations that can fortify special operations families. Our programs foster awareness, teach SOF families to identify signs of stress, and take proactive measures to establish healthy checkpoints and flourish. Military Special Operation Family Collaborative’s mission is imperative. Will you support it and help push free family programs and resources into our active and veteran community? It's #NationalDonutDay! What's your favorite kind of donut? Let us know in the comments. Every year on the first Friday of June, Americans celebrate National Donut Day to honor the Salvation Army Lassies, the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during the First World War to lift their spirits. This tradition began in Chicago in 1938. We "donut" know what we would do without all of our wonderful clients! #GJMAccounting #accountingandaccountants #smallbusiness
