We all know the importance of self-care, but it’s often the first thing we overlook. This recent HBR article struck a chord for me because leadership isn’t just about managing teams- it’s about managing ourselves. One change I’ve started making is incorporating morning workouts when I travel for work. Small, steady changes like this help me stay focused, even with a hectic schedule.

The overlooked power of self-care in leadership. After ten days of intentional disconnect, reflection and time in nature, I am returning to my daily life with a renewed sense of purpose and energy. As leaders, we often prioritize the needs of our teams above our own. Many leaders, driven by a sense of duty and responsibility, push themselves to the limit. However, effective leadership requires us to recognize the importance of self-care. Here’s why: ▶ By caring for yourself, you set a positive example for your team. ▶ Prioritizing well-being ensures sustainable success for you and your organization. ▶ Leaders who practice self-care show their teams the value of balance. ▶ Self-care builds resilience, helping leaders handle stress and setbacks more effectively. ▶ A resilient leader can navigate challenges with calmness and clarity, Self-care for leaders can take many forms. It might mean setting boundaries to ensure a healthy work-life balance, taking time for regular physical exercise, or engaging in activities that nourish the mind and spirit. It also involves recognizing when to step back and recharge, allowing space for reflection and renewal. Remember, as a leader, you cannot pour from an empty cup. Prioritize your own well-being, and you will be better equipped to serve and lead with excellence. What are you doing to re-energize and practice self-care?

🌟 Leaders, it's time to prioritize self-care! 🌟 I recently came across an excellent Harvard Business Review article written by Palena Neale, PhD, PCC that reminded me how often leaders neglect their own well-being, leading them to be at their worst more than at their best. Here are my favorite takeaways: 1️⃣ Meet yourself where you are – Understand your current state and be kind to yourself. 2️⃣ Avoid all-or-nothing thinking – Small steps matter. Progress over perfection! 3️⃣ Set boundaries – Create a balance between work and personal time. Your energy is not infinite. 4️⃣ Be aware of your emotions – Take a beat before responding, especially when emotions run high. 5️⃣ Address the conversations you're avoiding – Free yourself from the mental weight and have those necessary discussions. 6️⃣ Nourish yourself – Whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional nourishment, ensure you're fueling yourself to lead effectively. Leaders who invest in themselves can show up more authentically and powerfully for their teams. Leadership is often about serving others—but how often do we lead ourselves with the same energy? I recently came across Palena Neale’s article on creating a self-care checklist for leaders. Many of us prioritize our teams, our stakeholders, and our deadlines—but what about our own capacity to thrive? Here are insights from Palena Neale’s article that stood out to me: ✔️ Self-care starts with mindset shifts. Leaders need to give themselves permission to care inwardly, avoid all-or-nothing thinking, and prioritize small, consistent improvements. ✔️ Emotional health requires intention. The ABC framework—Awareness, Building intelligence, and Communicating—can help leaders process strong emotions and reduce burnout. ✔️ Relationships matter. A warm, enthusiastic “hello” can reset the tone of a meeting. Consistent collaboration and support add energy and positive morale. ✔️ Growth is essential. Whether it’s reconnecting with creative passions or learning something new, personal growth builds resilience and strengthens leadership capabilities. 🔗 Check out the article for a detailed checklist and actionable strategies! #Leadership #EI #EQ https://lnkd.in/gi_DFEZS
