I've known Boyer Communications since, well, a long time ago; and back then, when I was very green and very afraid of presenting in public, Boyer's workshop was a life changer for me. Since that time, I've seen that their expertise goes way beyond teaching people to become effective presenters, including how to build a compelling message that prompts action. In this episode, we talk about the importance of strong communications in general and Brad tells some fun stories about how he ramped his business along the way. #marketresearch #strategicplanning #execution #revenuegrowth
Season 1, Episode 19 is up. This week, we're talking to Brad Boyer, Founder of Boyer Communications. As a former TV producer, I watch television a little differently than most people. When I see an author or expert being interviewed, I'm on the lookout for what they do right — and what they do wrong. And let me tell you, I can always tell if someone has practiced and done media training or if they're going in unprepared. Because I used to be the one finding those experts and interviewing them. I always say that being an expert doesn't mean you're ready to be an expert in the media. You need to prepare intentionally so that your best self can come across. It's not just about you — it's about the people who need to hear what you have to say. Here are three ways that media training can help you connect with your audience: https://lnkd.in/eET85UMz #mediatraining #media #author #expert

If you're interested in having a greater impact through communication, it’s worth checking out the new BBC podcast "Communicating" hosted by journalist Ros Atkins. Ros talks to great communicators (from broadcasters, campaigners and speechwriters, to athletes, chefs and teachers) about how they do it. Two great episodes include: 🗣️ Sarada Peri: Former Obama speechwriter exploring persuasive speechwriting. 🎭 Rob Brydon: Comedian discussing the role of humour in effective communication. Here are some insights that stood out to us: 🎯 Understanding your audience can transform your communication approach. 🧩 Clarity and simplicity are essential. 📝 Being clear on the purpose of your communication is vital – what do I want people to think, do and/or feel? 💬 Engaging with your audience means making them think differently, laugh, reflect or act. 🌐 Authenticity is crucial in building trust and engagement. I am an unashamed fanboy of this podcast. Essential listening for anyone C suite or with C suite aspirations. A mini MBA for those working in Comms/ IR/ strategy: this stuff (and the stories that are told to illustrate the points) is gold dust and won’t be found in text books. Increasingly, the pair of them shine a light on how UK plc actually works. Bravo to the commissioning editors at the BBC for renewing the series. Our entire media need to get better at reporting business rather than ‘just’ the political economy - and this is a great contribution. #Impact #Communications #Strategy

Do you hate seeing recordings of yourself? After being a TV journalist for 25 years, you'd think I'd get over the cringy feeling of seeing myself on camera... but I'm sad to say, it's never gone away.. You know what I hate the most about watching myself? Watching a little bounce I do at the beginning of certain sentences. I did it a lot in this one video I recently filmed for NY Waterway (I do spokesperson and on-camera talent work for some of my clients) - it was a promotion for the NY International Auto Show- and it’s being broadcast on TV and Social… all with that little bounce I've always done this. It drives me INSANE to watch it. And no matter what, I can't seem to eradicate it from my delivery. But guess what.. despite the flaw.. this video sells tickets. That's why they run it. That's the goal of speaking, on camera, in the media, on a stage. You're selling something. Yourself as a leader. Your product or service. Your firm or company. And it’s so tempting to stay silent because if we don’t say anything, then there’s no chance of making a mistake. But there’s also no chance of making the sale. I have to remind my clients of this all the time. So, if you’re holding yourself back from being getting on camera, or public speaking, cause you find something you do embarrassing, cringe, or just plain weird… stop it. And if you need help to get better… so you can really sell what you’re up to, then book a strategy call with me. #oncamera #publicspeaking #mediatraining #video #spokesperson #oncameratalent #lawyercoach #executivepresence

Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with friend and former colleague Jeff Saperstone about how he likes to work with #PR professionals, and what he's looking for in a pitch to move forward with a story. One of the big takeaways: don't just think like a reporter📰, but write like one too. If your pitch is written like a TV #news story - what the industry calls a V/O - then that's gold 🥇. It helps the reporter see that you speak their language, and it helps them envision how it would play out on TV. Think visually. 📺 #TV is its own beast, and the best stories for this medium also have great video. If you can show the #journalist that they're going to get that with your story, they're much more likely to be interested. Keep your eye on the clock. 🕑 This is a big one - know when the reporter or producer's show airs, and don't pitch them during crunch time. For instance, if their show airs at 5 or 6pm, don't hit send on that email at 4pm - they likely won't see it, and if they do, they won't be happy about it. 🙁 Check out the blog on the Greenough Communications site for more insights from Jeff, and details on how his anchoring days started back when he was a teenager.
