William Anders, one of the first three humans to orbit the Moon, has died aged 90, in a small-plane crash in Washington state. On the Apollo 8 mission at Christmas 1968, Andrers took a famous photograph of the Earth rising over the lunar horizon. He later reflected on his picture’s influence: “Here we came all the way to the Moon to discover Earth.”
