What can we do in our communities to ensure the unhoused are not facing additional challenges obtaining permanent housing due to arrests associated with living on the street?
• Communities should engage with local law enforcement to understand their policies and intentions moving forward.
•Create and maintain relationships with local law enforcement.
•Designate drop off sites for police officers encountering the homeless in lieu of arrest.
•Address the lack of available and affordable housing in communities, along with access to funding and support.
•Local social service agencies and CoC’s should continue to collaborate, partner, and focus on implementing action plans.
•Expand shelter capacity.
•Continue to make emergency shelters welcoming and ensure they are filled with necessary and engaging programming.
•Inceased legislative advocacy.

Another great article posted by the Director of Second Look Network at The Sentencing Project regarding use of clemency powers to address excessive sentences. The number of older people in State & Federal prisons is increasing faster than any other age group. How could anyone claim that the point of incarceration was to incapacitate the truly dangerous when there are more people older than 55 in US prisons (165,000) than there are people in the high-crime range of 18-24? Geriatric healthcare in prison is both disgraceful and expensive. It costs on average, 3x more to incarcerate an older person than a younger one. Governor Andy Beshear could help alleviate the excessive costs mass incarceration has incurred on Kentucky as a proponent for second chances, and providing additional resources to protect public education and access to affordable healthcare-basic rights to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

What an incredibly bold and inclusive way for a Governor to use clemency powers to address excessive sentences. Read New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy's clemency initiative at: https://lnkd.in/eXHPEwdj
Governor Murphy's statement: “Today on Juneteenth, a day that celebrates freedom, I am incredibly proud to launch a historic clemency initiative. I’m committed to using my powers as Governor to pardon and commute sentences to address injustices and overly harsh sentences in our criminal justice system. Thank you @ltgovway, @pastor_rls, @meekmill, and @wallo267 of @reform, Amol Sinha of the @aclunj, Justin Dews, and everyone who joined us in Newark today in support of second chances and the values of justice, compassion, and rehabilitation."

024: In this episode of Dialogue Over Division, we spoke with Marco Van Huigenbos immigrated from the Netherlands to rural Alberta in 1996, building a life centered around farming, business, and family. At 26, driven by his dedication to his community, Marco ran for municipal council.
Marco provides examples of some of the issues he was involved with while in his role, and he also shares the frustrations he faced and complexities he encountered. He describes how public officials on a local level are held to account more readily due to the smaller area they are charged with. He had citizens approaching and asking him questions at the grocery store highlighting the importance of governance and accountability at local levels.
As government officials mismanaged C0vid, Marco felt that citizens' voices were being ignored. This frustration led him to participate in the Coutts protest as a form of civil disobedience. His participation resulted in a charge six months later and ultimately his conviction. On July 22, he will be arraigned in connection with this matter.
Marco's journey invites us to consider the importance of civic engagement in ensuring that every citizen's voice is heard, despite the challenges and frustrations that come with holding the government accountable. If we don't know about the problems, we cannot fix them. Marco's involvement exposes some of these issues.
Listen now and share your thoughts on this crucial topic. Do you see Marco as a criminal or a dedicated citizen striving to be heard?

For Dr. Bhattacharya to be effective in his campaign for restoration of trust, disabusing the powerful, canceling the cancelers and the censorship, he has to start with a forum for truth and reconciliation.
Restorative justice is required for his campaign of Restoration of Trust.
