Monday morning and before going to London for the remainder of the week, a quick note on my participation in the #AIMSummit and CMA CGM Startup Awards hosted by Rodolphe SAADE last week in beautiful and sunny Marseille. The Startup Awards and the 60 participating startups brought back fond memories of when we built Maersk Growth in 2017 and hosted a number of similar events. Congrats to the winners Aerleum, zero44, Elonroad, GBMS, Okular Logistics, Optioryx, Argil (YC S24) and Bodyguard and to everybody else pitching and participating. We need to transform global supply chains with technology if we are to achieve our net zero goals - that's exactly is why we are building Nine Realms where global industry leaders, private and public, join forces in driving real change through investments and cross functional collaboration. It was rewarding to observe the industry- and national leadership in the areas of supply chain/logistics and AI last week in Marseille - and how much can be done in a short time. Well done CMA CGM and CEVA Logistics - and #France and thanks for having me. Lots of additional thoughts, including on #AI in supply chains but that will be for another day. #AIMSummit #SupplyChain #NineRealms #Sustainability

"...previously the hub has been involved in ideas and developments around travel retailing and Web 3, the scope is now there to “go into things that are more hardcore airline to a certain extent but still need to be enhanced through the lens of technology.” Future growth will not be without hurdles. With both his innovation and data hats on, Lagardere said challenges for the hub include its ability to work across the organization to bring customer, operational and even technical fleet data together. "When you start doing this, you really have the potential to develop solutions and address problems on a non-trivial basis.” He also talked about accelerating what the hub is doing to bring about real transformation. “What we're doing for the time being is still not at the scale of this, and the challenge comes from the need to prioritize innovation as much as you want to prioritize cost savings and fleet purchase. That is, for an airline group, an equation that one needs to navigate.”" Phocuswire "Priorities, challenges and next steps for Lufthansa Innovation Hub" read & learn more https://lnkd.in/gD8ss-sy

How can airlines solve their challenges faster and more effectively? At NextRise (넥스트라이즈) in Seoul 🇰🇷, the largest startup fair in Asia, our Director Research & Intelligence Dr. Ivan Terekhov delved deeper into the topic. This year, we’re celebrating 10 years of InTENtional Innovation at Lufthansa Innovation Hub. Dr. Ivan Terekhov highlighting the importance of innovation at NextRise (넥스트라이즈) marks another step on our mission to lead the future of travel and aviation and to drive innovation inTENtionally with focus, ambition, and purpose. These are our 3 key takeaways: 🔥 Both low-cost and full-service airline carriers see innovation as critical for driving future investments and maintaining competitiveness. However, most airlines are currently working on their challenges while staying in their own bubble. Boosting their innovation activities can help them to solve their challenges faster and more effectively. 📉 The rate of patent filings in the aviation sector has slowed down, reflecting a decline in new technological advancements. Encouraging a culture of innovation and research & development is essential to revitalize patent activity. 💸 Airlines strategically investing in startups can lead to significant improvements in terms of operations, sustainability and digital consumer experience and drive industry growth. However, only a few airlines have ventured into startup investments so far. Overcoming regulatory and financial barriers is essential to foster a more robust startup ecosystem within aviation. In your view, what other ways are there for airlines to boost their innovation activities? #NextRise #NextRise2024 #PushingTheLimits #LIH10

Recently, PortXL participated in the Maritime Innovation Dinner – and so did two members of our supervisory board: Femke Brenninkmeijer, who opened the dinner together with Peter Goedvolk, and Vivienne de Leeuw, who gave a keynote speech on transitions and entrepreneurship in the port region. Innovation is, of course, an ongoing topic and one that is near to our hearts, as we aim to bring as many maritime start-ups and scale-ups into the ecosystem to further both (product) innovations and the method of open innovation. The event, attended by Christel Pullens and Linda Treuman, was also useful to catch up with some of our partners, such as Damen, City of Rotterdam (Hanneke Bruinsma) and Port of Rotterdam. A good moment to talk about challenges – more specifically, challenges for which a collaboration with relevant start-ups and scale-ups can be part of the solution. Indeed, every year our partners come up with challenges. These topics give us guidance when scouting for participants (worldwide) who will make up the new 2024 cohort of our accelerator programme, making it directly relevant for maritime companies looking towards innovation as a way of tackling challenges. Thanks to Maritime Delta and the Rotterdam Maritime Board for organising this event at the premises of Royal Roos BV en VSTEP Simulation, where Dirk Koppenol led a panel discussion with Josefien Groot, Karin Govaert, and Marco Hoogendoorn about ‘mature markets with immature innovations’. Tip: reach out and connect with these interesting people! For example, Fulko Roos and Marco Hoogendoorn were recently interviewed about breakbulk and innovation here:https://lnkd.in/gFqax7QC (videos + whitepaper) As the dinner progressed, we were inspired by many more speakers, debates and topics, summed up by storyteller Ayla Schneiders with the words Make, Fail, Scale, Together. #rotterdammaritimecapital #innovation #maritimeindustry
