What's the best response to a Submarine Abandonment, Escape and Rescue incident? 🤔 That's what the Australian Defence Force was practicing on Exercise Purple Carillon 2024. As part of the exercise, the James Fisher Defence Submarine Rescue System was mobilised from its base at 📍Bilbra Lake, Western Australia and moved to 📍RAAF Base Pearce for a loading exercise. The loading exercise included validation and rehearsal of loading the James Fisher Defence Submarine Rescue System equipment on a Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster aircraft. 💪 📸 SGT Peter Borys #YourADF #AusAirForce

There's more to the Fleet Air Arm than the F-35B... 1SL Fellow Lita-Lee Jarrold lays out the vital work undertaken by all elements of the Fleet Air Arm (FAA) in maintaining not just the Carrier Strike capability for which it is best known, but the Continuous At Sea Deterrent, Littoral Response Groups, and ad hoc tasking in support of Home Office and inter-agency tasks forces. Focusing on the Merlin Helicopter Force, Lita-Lee emphasises how investment in these airframes and functions underpins the UK's defence at home and abroad. This article represents a double first: the first Royal United Services Institute Defence Studies paper by a Fellow; and Lita-Lee's first ever published research output. Not only that, but Lita-Lee is our first Junior Rate (Leading Airman) to ever submit externally - so huge congratulations are in order! https://lnkd.in/eqv8dPdW

The MiG-31M represents the pinnacle of military aviation development in the USSR, which is why a certain amount of information about it is still confidential. It has been established that the MiG-31M outperforms all the aircraft in the world in its class by almost 500km/h in terms of maximum speed. Each MiG-31 can operate both autonomously and as an air command centre, directing the work of other interceptors, attached fighters and ground-based air defence assets. The power of the onboard computer and communication equipment is sufficient for this purpose. Once in service, the MiG-31 considerably reduced the frequency of flights by American spy planes.

Refueling aircraft midair, commonly known as aerial refueling or air-to-air refueling, is a process that allows military and some civilian aircraft to receive fuel from a tanker aircraft while in flight. This capability extends the range and endurance of the receiving aircraft, enabling them to stay airborne longer without the need to land for refueling.✈️💪

High readiness fighter aircraft from six Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) nations scrambled in quick succession to intercept and escort U.S. Air Force bombers in a multinational exercise demonstrating their readiness to defend northern European airspace and NATO’s North Atlantic flank. In the latest iteration of Exercise Global Guardian, Quick Response Alert (QRA) fast jets from the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland scrambled, intercepted and conducted rolling handovers with, for the first time, a flight of two U.S. B-52s on June 18, 2024. During the flight from RAF Fairford in the UK to home stations in the United States, the bombers simulated a long-range aviation patrol by an unfriendly nation. Once they left European airspace, the flight split up they were then intercepted by U.S. and Canadian QRA jets. After its inauguration in February 2024, exercise Global Guardian is set to become a regular fixture involving nations from the JEF, the U.S. and NATO’s Air Command. Its purpose is to demonstrate a seamless response to any unfriendly or suspicious air activity. Global Guardian is confirmation of the European contribution towards defence in depth of the North American landmass. Exercises such as Global Guardian are sending a clear message that deter malign activity and reassure friends. The JEF played a key role in this exercise by coordinating the unified strategic communications effort and aligning it with NATO and the U.S. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/g7CtkDmm
