In designing transport systems, we often overlook the most important factor: the user. From recognizing biases and understanding spatial proximity, physical mobility and digital connectivity to addressing personal circumstances and using technology for innovative solutions, user-centric planning is essential. TRATSEDI's latest infographic highlights how focusing on the needs and experiences of diverse users can help create sustainable, accessible, and tech-driven transportation models. By involving users in the process and standardizing data collection, we can pave the way for more inclusive and efficient transport solutions. #Multimodality in transportation goes beyond just making it easy for people to get around. It’s an approach to transit that aims to reform traditional mobility systems by putting people at the forefront of urban planning. This means combining a variety of transportation modes to improve mobility for all citizens. Merging public transit with multimodal options allows us to move more people in and out of cities and rural areas, connecting them to essential services and amenities needed to maintain a satisfactory quality of life. Modeshift's CEO Miroslav Katsarov delves into the topic of how transportation can go beyond #MaaS - explore his latest article for Forbes Technology Council here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dNtqmXeX #PublicTransit #MultimodalTransport #MobilityInfrastructure

New transit technology has the potential to transform the way we travel — and how communities and their citizens connect to one another — creating equitable access across both rural and urban geographies. While we know technology such as mobility trip planning, ticketing, payment processing, and other customer-facing digital solutions will improve a customer’s transit experience, there are many barriers to adoption that must be considered and evaluated to simplify the perception of their use and ensure the public understands and can utilize all the benefits of the technology. Seeking to facilitate the introduction of new transit technology across Michigan, I am working with Michigan Department of Transportation and my partners at Michael Baker International and University of Detroit Mercy to develop an actionable implementation plan. Over the next year and a half, our work will be focused on helping MDOT understand, select, budget, market, and educate the public and various transit agency stakeholders, creating a common-sense, community-oriented approach to implementing new technology that increases transit ridership and enhances the overall transit experience. If you are attending the Annual Conference, we invite you to participate in a series of interactive workshops we're leading on Wednesday, August 21! Session 1: Technology | Wednesday, August 21 | 9:15-10:00 a.m. Our discussion will cover a range of topics, including smart infrastructure and real-time data analytics, highlighting how the latest developments can enhance efficiency, safety, and access to public transit. Session 2: Budgeting | Wednesday, August 21 | 10:45-11:30 a.m. Funding can make or break any digital innovation strategy. In this session, we will consider innovative and out-of-the-box funding opportunities, leveraging the possibility of grants and partnerships to support long-term goals through a tiered budgeting approach. Session 3: Community and Partnerships | Wednesday, August 21 | 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Bridge building and community partnership development are key to the implementation of new transit technology. In this session, we will explore effective team communication channels and strategies to break down silos, present successful case studies, and invite feedback on ideas that leverage existing resources to foster collaboration across divisions, organizations, and public-private partnerships. See you next week in Michigan! #Infrastructure #TransitTechnology #Marketing #PublicTransit #transportation #mobility #SustainableMobility #InclusiveMobility | Ellen Kent, MBA, Elizabeth Bechtel, Kristin Gladwin, Utpal Dutta, John Wilkerson

#TopicOfTheWeek: Public transport 🚃 Did you know that shifting from private cars to public transport can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50% per passenger kilometre? 🍃 Public transport is vital for sustainability in both cities and rural areas - and it is with technology that we can upgrade existing systems and build the sustainable future we all seek. Take UrbanVind for example: A software platform that integrates with city ticketing systems to manage mobility demand more efficiently. Using machine learning-based behaviour analytics, Urban Vind segments users and provides targeted incentives and information to encourage sustainable travel choices. Peter Vest, Head of Investment & Portfolio Manager: “As many cities are investing in transitioning their public transport to more sustainable energy sources, increased ridership should be encouraged. Simultaneously, more public transport use will have impacts on infrastructure, which should be considered when encouraging this outcome.” Learn more about Urban Vind: https://urbanvind.com/ #UrbanMobility #Innovation #PublicTransport #SustainableMobility #Tech EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology

Hello!! Thanks a lot for the mention, EIT Urban Mobility, Jan Hauser and Peter Vest! Yes, helping to manage demand and optimize public transport is our vision at UrbanVind, and through our customer interviews talking to over 40+ cities, we found out that Data on Real-time Passenger Flow and Origin-Destination insights is incredibly hard to get with APCs costing significant amounts of money. We also found that the real accuracy of APCs on passenger counts is significantly lower than what they claim to be. Therefore, as a natural first step, we developed a better solution to help PTAs and PTOs collect data more cost-effectively and accurately. So we developed CrowdFlow, a simple app for bus drivers that scans for Bluetooth devices around and uses a Machine Learning model to accurately determine the number of passengers in a bus. With our initial testing yielding results of 80% accuracy, we're working on further improving to reach 95% accuracy and eventually eliminate the need for expensive hardware-based APCs. Stay tuned as we are getting ready to pilot our solution! Please check it out: https://lnkd.in/dEtMvVpu
