With one “sleep night” left before Thanksgiving, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the power of gratitude—not just in our personal lives but in the workplace. Let’s be honest: 2024 hasn’t been easy for many. Economic uncertainty, shifting priorities, and challenges big and small have tested even the strongest nerves. Yet, as researchers repeatedly point out, gratitude is a powerful medicine for that which ails us. Gratitude isn’t just a feel-good notion; it’s grounded in neuroscience. When we express and receive gratitude, our brains release dopamine and serotonin—chemicals that promote feelings of happiness and reduce stress.  Who doesn’t want that? With practice and time, we can actually rewire the brain, helping us focus on the positive vs. fixating on the negative. In the workplace, this positive bent translates to higher morale, deeper engagement, and yes, even increased productivity. When employees feel appreciated, they’re more likely to go the extra mile, collaborate, and stay committed to shared goals. Gratitude goes beyond simply saying “thank you.” It’s about creating a culture where wins – the homeruns and the base hits -- are celebrated. Actions of gratitude bond teams and help them navigate bumpy roads. Recognition of baby steps builds grit—the ability to keep moving forward together, even when the path is steep. Celebrating these little wins strengthens their connective 'glue' and makes them more durable for the challenges ahead. This Thanksgiving, take a moment to thank the teams that keep us moving forward. Celebrate the wins, the noble attempts, and the resilience to get back up after failure. Gratitude, after all, isn’t just a holiday sentiment—it’s a practice that holds teams together and propels us forward. I’m personally grateful to this LinkedIn “team” for your collective wisdom, your candor, and your help. You are excellent teachers, humorists, and connectors. Wishing you all a very Happy and meaningful Thanksgiving! #Gratitude #Leadership #Thanksgiving #TeamCulture #WorkplaceMorale
