We often emphasize that the stage between 3 to 6 years is crucial in shaping children into well-rounded, emotionally healthy, and intellectually capable individuals. The experiences children have during these formative years play a pivotal role in influencing their lifelong learning, emotional well-being, and success in school, as well as their ability to interact meaningfully with the world around them. Providing the right support, encouragement, and educational opportunities during this critical period is essential for laying the foundation for future success. At JSW Foundation, we have consistently adopted a holistic approach to early childhood education and care. Our focus is on experiential and activity-based learning, in line with the National Education Policy 2020. A recent example of this approach in action comes from Odisha, where a teacher took the children to the kitchen garden next to their Anganwadi. In this hands-on setting, the teacher engaged the children by explaining the various vegetables, leaves, their shapes, and colors. This method of learning helps children connect their minds to the objects around them, fostering curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world. "𝐀 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐡 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲! 🏆" Throwing it back to my 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 at 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐡 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, where I had the privilege of presenting an idea at the university's 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 competition and was awarded this cup as a token of appreciation! The idea I presented was to establish a 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 on campus. The concept was simple yet impactful: 🗂️ A central place where students could deposit lost items. 🌐 Updates about lost and found items would be accessible via a website. This would eliminate the chaos of personal group messages about lost wallets 👜, keys 🔑, earbuds 🎧 or other belongings and provide a reliable, university-managed solution. This experience not only boosted my confidence 💪 but also strengthened my belief in creating practical solutions to everyday challenges. Students need classrooms where they feel safe, understood, and able to express themselves without fear of judgment. To support future educators in creating such environments, we recently conducted Learning Circles on Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) across 11 Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) in Chhattisgarh. In Chhattisgarh, where classrooms are diverse, SEL is essential for building strong relationships, fostering empathy, and creating inclusive learning environments. Activities like the Mood Indicator helped Pre-Service Teachers reflect on their emotions, increasing emotional awareness and empathy. These activities intend to equip Pre-Service Teachers with the confidence to apply SEL effectively, helping them create safe space, supportive classrooms and fostering vital skills for the future of education.
