Holiday party season is among us! Here's 5 tips from #YellowDogUK to help anxious pups before and during a holiday party. 1. Create a calm and safe space 💛 Set up a quiet, cozy space away from the party hustle. Add their favourite bed, toys, and a blanket for familiarity. This gives them a safe spot to relax when things get overwhelming. 2. Ease them into the festivities 🎉 Introduce party sounds and decorations gradually before the event. Allow your dog to adjust to the changes at their own pace so they are more prepared for the day of the actual event. 3. Keep them busy 🎾 Offer interactive toys, puzzle feeders, or long-lasting chews to keep them engaged during the party. These distractions can help reduce anxiety and keep their focus off of the event going on. 4. Monitor interactions 🤝 Limit new people or pets interacting with your dog unless they seem comfortable. Politely remind guests to respect your dog’s space if needed. Use YellowDog markers to signify to others that may come into contact with your dog that they need extra space. 5. Mask the noise 🎶 Play soothing music or white noise in their safe space to drown out loud conversations or sudden sounds from the party. With a little preparation, your furry friend can feel safe and secure while you enjoy the holiday celebrations! 🐾🎄💛 https://lnkd.in/ecYwWhtN #YellowDogUK #YellowDogMovement #YellowDogs #AnxiousDogs #HolidayParties #DogOwner #Doglife #DogsNeedSpace

But she’ll still need exercise and ways to get rid of extra energy – which can be a problem, particularly if you’re visiting an unfamiliar place. Guests may also upset your dog’s routine. November 5th marks the UK’s official Bonfire Night, but as we know, the festivities often extend well beyond just one evening! While we love a good celebration, it’s essential to think of our beloved dogs and help keep them safe and calm during the fireworks. This time of year can be incredibly stressful for many pets, so here are a few tips that might help reduce their anxiety: 1. Walk Them Before Dark: Try to ensure your dog has been walked and gone to the toilet before dusk, as this is when most fireworks displays start. 2. Avoiding outdoor trips during the flashes and bangs can help prevent extra stress and discomfort. 3. Minimise the outside Light and Noise: Close windows and curtains, and turn on indoor lights to block out flashing lights. Playing music or having the TV on can also help mask outside noises. 4. Stay Calm and Relaxed: Dogs are sensitive to their owner’s emotions, so try to remain calm and relaxed. They’ll feel safer if you’re calm and don’t act over-excited. 5. Let Your Dog Lead: Every dog responds differently—let yours guide you. If they want to hide, let them stay in a spot where they feel secure. If they seek comfort, offer calm reassurance. Ignoring them won’t help in times of fear. 6. Handle little accidents with Care: If your dog has an accident, avoid scolding them, as this will only add to their fear. They’re not doing it on purpose. Enjoy Bonfire Night safely, and let’s keep our dogs in mind with their sensitive ears. #dogs #bonfirenight #bekind

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 As we gather with family and friends to celebrate, let's remember how the holiday hustle and bustle can affect our pets. Changes in routine, unfamiliar guests, and tempting smells can create stress or lead to unwanted behaviors. Here are some tips: 🐾 Provide a Safe Space - Set up a quiet, cozy area where your pet can retreat if the festivities feel overwhelming. 🐾 Manage Greetings - Meeting new people can be stressful for some pets. Let them skip greetings and relax in their safe space instead. 🐾 Reward Calm Behavior - Use treats or toys to reinforce calm, relaxed behavior during the commotion. 🐾 Manage Temptation - Place food and decorations out of reach to prevent counter-surfing or chewing on unsafe items. 🐾 Stick to Their Routine - Keep mealtimes, walks, and playtime as consistent as possible to reduce stress. Wishing you and your pets a joyful day! 🐕🐾 #Thanksgiving #PetSafeFoods #PetSafety

The last few evenings have been especially 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗿𝗲𝗼, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗿-𝗸𝗶𝗱. As firecrackers go off in the neighborhood, she shivers in fear, her heart racing, looking to us for comfort. My wife and I do everything we can to ease her anxiety, even taking her for a drive to get away from the noise. While it helps, any new sound still sends her heart racing. I reached out to Oreo’s vet for guidance, and she reminded us how important it is 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆. In more severe cases, calming medications can also help under a vet’s supervision. Reflecting on this, I realize how meaningful our celebrations are, whether festivals, weddings, or special occasions where firecrackers play a part. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀, 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀. I think of the countless stray dogs, cats, and cows out there with no one to comfort them. Some people even use firecrackers near animals for a laugh—acts that show a sad lack of empathy. 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹. Our joy should not come at the expense of another being’s peace. For those with pets or who care about animals, here are a few ways I’ve found helpful to keep them calm: 𝟭. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁, 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 - indoors where pets feel secure. 𝟮. 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 - to muffle loud sounds from outside. 𝟯. 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 - earlier in the day to help them relax. 𝟰. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗶𝗱𝘀 - like pheromone sprays or vet-approved anxiety meds. As we celebrate, let’s also choose to coexist mindfully. A little compassion adds so much more meaning to our festivities.

Our Top Christmas Party Tips 🎅 Throwing a Christmas bash? Don’t let the HR Grinch steal the fun—here’s how to balance festivity with safety: 🎄Lighten Up the Drinks Menu: Stick to light or mid-strength options. If spirits are a must, make them cash bar items. 🎄Hire a Pro Bar Tender: Let someone with a Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate handle the tricky “last-call” moments. 🎄Encourage Conscious Choices: At venues, ask staff to wait until drinks are empty before offering refills. 🎄Feed the Masses: Skip the nibbles—serve a proper meal. Nobody parties well on an empty stomach! 🎄Set the Standard: As the boss, your behaviour sets the tone. No tequila shots, please. 🎄Time is Key: Set a clear start and end time (and stick to it). The magic rarely happens at 3am! 🎄Limit the Tabs: Consider drink tickets—three per person keeps things in check. 🎄Think Outside the BBQ Box: Golf day, spa day, rock climbing...who says Christmas parties have to be boozy? 🎄Safe Travels Home: Provide accommodation or taxi vouchers to ensure everyone gets home safely. 🎄Remind Them of the Rules: A quick pre-party Toolbox Talk or email reminder goes a long way. Finish your Christmas celebrations on a high note by ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable time—because a well-planned party is the best kind of party!
