I recently published a 3-part blog series with my colleagues Shaheer Mansoor and Sreenivas Nettem, which tackles the common challenges organizations face when modernizing legacy database systems and building a data lake. Many enterprises are saddled with aging on-premises databases that are difficult to migrate and integrate with modern analytics tools. In this blog series we share our experience of building such systems for customers, and summarize the key challenges and best practices for designing and building a data lake on AWS. In the first part, we demonstrate how to use AWS Database Migration Service to replicate data from a SQL Server database into an S3 data lake, processing both full load and change data capture. Part 2 then explores loading this data into an Apache Iceberg-powered data lake using AWS Glue, complete with automated schema evolution to handle evolving source schemas. Finally, the third part shows how to leverage Amazon Redshift Spectrum to efficiently query the data lake and build materialized views and data marts, accessible via the Redshift Data API for consumption. This comprehensive approach allows organizations to modernize their data infrastructure, automate most common manual tasks and ensure the data lake is scalable, reliable and performant. I hope these technical insights are helpful for your own data transformation journey! Part 1: https://lnkd.in/d2fegk2T Part 2: https://lnkd.in/dWhvvQtB Part 3: https://lnkd.in/dcw6kJva
