Thanksgiving Day is an important traditional holiday in North American countries, representing gratitude and reunion. Thanksgiving Day originated in 1621 and was initially a feast held by the early settlers in New England, USA, to express their gratitude to the local Native Americans for their help. This became the traditional starting point of the American Thanksgiving Day, and it gradually evolved into a holiday to express gratitude for the good things in life and cherish family and friendship. Thanksgiving Day in the USA is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year, while Thanksgiving Day in Canada is celebrated on the second Monday of October. Thanksgiving Day is also a precious moment for family reunion, sharing delicious meals, and enjoying the joy of kinship. Many people also take this opportunity to reflect and express gratitude for the positive aspects of their lives. MEO Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love and happiness. 话题标签 #Thanksgiving2024 话题标签 #freightforwarder 话题标签 #logistics

Being thankful 2 years ago, I returned from a five-day family vacation in Puerto Rico, and as I settled into this season of gratitude, I found myself reflecting on how we got here. A quick Google search led me to the story of Thanksgiving in America, which is rich with lessons. The pilgrims of Plymouth had incredible courage to make the journey to America, but their survival hinged on the help of local natives. After enduring kidnapping and slavery, Squanto returned home to teach the Pilgrims how to cultivate corn, catch fish, and avoid poisonous plants. Without his guidance, their story might have ended very differently. Thanks to this miraculous assistance from the Wampanoag tribe, the Pilgrims celebrated their first successful harvest with a Thanksgiving feast, inviting their Indian allies to share in their joy. It’s a reminder that even amidst hardship, we have the power to choose gratitude. David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk, beautifully articulates this sentiment: “The root of joy is gratefulness... It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.” Each moment offers us the chance to embrace gratitude, cultivating a heart that radiates joy. Sharing a table with those who are different from us, whether family or friends, often comes with challenges and awkward conversations. It’s all too easy to judge or blame rather than engage and learn from our differences. That first Thanksgiving meal serves as a model for us today, reminding us to embrace gratitude as a daily discipline. It’s particularly difficult to be thankful for the people or situations that have caused us pain. Yet, transcending that hurt and learning to be grateful for it can free us from the grip of others' actions dictating our responses. As Victor Frankl wisely said, “It’s not what we expect of life but what life expects of us.” Whether it’s with family, work, or in our personal journeys, I encourage you to find the value in gratitude in more moments. Let’s celebrate this season by choosing to be thankful, even amidst the complexities of life.

Thanksgiving abroad can feel awkward... Many of us are used to celebrating with family and friends or at least having a significant amount of time off. But when you live abroad, you often don't have any time off work, the kids are still in school, and it feels less and less like a holiday. As someone who has celebrated Thanksgiving for the last 15 years overseas, here's some friendly advice on how to make it feel more like a holiday: 👉 Don't hesitate to celebrate on the Saturday. If the point is being around family and friends, why does it matter if you eat turkey on a certain day of the week? 👉 Take some time to find your favorite holiday foods. It's possible! Don't give up just because you are in a foreign country and assume you can't find them. 👉 Don't be afraid to make new traditions that fit your new schedule. If you can't watch the Lions play on Thursday, start a new tradition that accommodates a Thanksgiving schedule abroad! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating back home and overseas! #americanabroad #expatlife #thanksgiving #traditions

Americans celebrate Thanksgiving to give thanks for the harvest and other blessings of the year. The holiday is based on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the Wampanoag people and the Pilgrims, the English colonists of Plymouth: The feast The feast was a three-day celebration that included wild turkeys, duck, geese, fish, corn, green vegetables, and dried fruits. The significance The feast honored the help the Wampanoag people provided to the Pilgrims in cultivating crops and surviving the harsh winter. Squanto, also known as Tisquantum, is said to have played a key role in guiding the Pilgrims to food sources. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year. It's a day to: Symbolize intercultural peace, Celebrate America's opportunity for newcomers, and Celebrate the sanctity of home and family. The holiday's traditions include: A traditional Thanksgiving meal that typically includes turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie Heavy traffic on the roads as family members gather Turkeys becoming the centerpiece of the meal because they were a luxury food that didn't take away resources needed for daily living History of Thanksgiving: Why does the US celebrate it? The President Abraham Lincoln permanently established Thanksgiving as a national holiday in 1863. However, some Americans, including people of Native American ancestry, believe Thanksgiving celebrations mask the true history of oppression and bloodshed between European settlers and Native Americans. Many Indigenous Americans observe a different holiday on the same day as Thanksgiving, the National Day of Mourning.
