Kampala Road Rehabilitation Project to benefit 1.6M people by tackling congestion The 69.2 km initiative aims to modernize #Uganda’s road infrastructure, enhancing urban mobility while integrating climate-resilient and eco-friendly measures. To address the adverse effects of #climatechange, the project is integrating 5 kilometers of drainage structures to enhance stormwater management and will plant more than 10,000 trees along the streets for carbon sequestration and noise reduction. African Development Bank Director for Climate Change and Green Growth, Prof. Anthony Nyong, recently toured the site to evaluate its contribution to sustainable urban development: "The African Development Bank is very happy to be associated with this project. We are committed to continuing to mainstream resilience measures into the project to ensure that it remains sustainable and adapts to future climate shocks.” The Bank has mobilised $275 million for the project, with the Global Environment Facility and the Government of Uganda jointly contributing $5 million. 🌍 ALBATROSS aims to ground its research and innovation actions in #Africa, by developing its activities in and together with the local communities strategically selected in 5 countries in sub-Saharan Africa: #Tanzania, #Kenya, #Gahana, #SouthAfrica and #Madagascar. 🌀 The engine of this process is embodied in the establishment of the Climate-Resilience Development Network, which represents a pan-African and transnational structure integrating indigenous communities with local research and policy organisations, which is articulated on different levels. The hubs are one of them. They consist of well-developed territorial communities managed directly or indirectly by the project partners; they represent the network hubs and are the fundamental unit on which the project actions are based. 🌱The hubs are stable in contexts that are crucial for the socio-economic and political interests of the countries and suffer not only from the #climate and environmental deterioration pressures but also from the economic and social pressures that climate change triggers. The hubs will work in synergy on three key issues for #ALBATROSS and of strong interest to the countries involved; these are Environmental-Socio-Economic Vulnerability, Internal Migration, and Natural Hazards. 💚 #HorizonEU #EU #ClimateServices #NBS #Nature #research #project

📢 Unlocking Africa's Growth Through Trade Corridors and Logistics Infrastructure 🌍 Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) are pivotal in constructing the logistics infrastructure that fuels regional integration in Africa. The continent's prosperity hinges on robust ports and trade corridors, necessitating substantial investments to enhance capacity and efficiency. DFIs are instrumental in mobilizing resources to nurture these vital trade routes, fostering job creation and bolstering intra-African trade. In tandem with infrastructure development, it's imperative to incorporate biodiversity offsets to ensure sustainable progress. Striking a balance between economic advancement and environmental conservation is paramount for a thriving and interconnected Africa. 🌱🌍 #DFIs #TradeCorridors #RegionalIntegration #SustainableDevelopment #BiodiversityOffsets #LogisticsInfrastructure #AfCFTA #AfricaEconomicGrowth

On behalf of UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), I am horoured to announce the launch of the "Climate Resilient Cities" project in Nampula, Mozambique, generously supported by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway in $4.5 million funding. This initiative addresses the increasing vulnerabilities Mozambique faces due to climate change, including prolonged droughts, cyclones, and floods. Ranked 7th globally for natural disaster exposure, Nampula, Mozambique's third-largest city, is particularly affected, with over 800,000 residents facing rapid urbanization, limited services, and high poverty rates. In collaboration with local partners such as Agencia De Desenvolmento Integrado Do Norte, Provincial Executive Council of Nampula, and FAO, this project aims to enhance urban management and resilience. By integrating nature-based solutions and promoting circular, inclusive development, #UNHabitatMozambique🇲🇿 strive to improve livelihoods and create sustainable, climate-resilient communities. Join us at the World Urban Forum (WUF12) to learn more about our efforts and engage with global urban leaders.Register here: https://lnkd.in/dyX3Ehb3 #UrbanResilience #ClimateAdaptation #SustainableDevelopment #UNHabitat #Mozambique UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme)
