Nimit Shrivastava is interested in pursuing data science and has won numerous awards for speech and debate. He applied for DARTCC’s internship to experience a #nonprofitorganization and to gain new knowledge and abilities in areas like crisis management, volunteer coordination, and using technology for impacting causes. With this background and experience, Nimit provides a helping hand to jump-start contacting #veterinary schools, #emergencymanagement programs, and search and rescue teams to try out the EASApp. He also helps contribute to the #marginalizedcommunities problem, which offers minimal published research, especially concerning pets. He aims to analyze details of course training to determine what may be the most efficient and effective with properly given resources. Among Nimit’s other interests? Waterpolo where he plays for the JV Team for Amador Valley High School in the Bay Area, California. He’s also the captain of a Model Rocketry Team. Check out the latest episode of the Uplevel Dairy Podcast where I share about my experience at Siemers Holsteins!
In today's episode, I am catching up with Young Leader, Brianna Meyer from Siemers Holsteins in Newton, Wisconsin just days after completing her summer internship at this newly built facility. In this conversation, find out how she expanded her skills from the 130-cow robot dairy she grew up on in Chilton, Wis., to integrating with a high-performing team on a 5,500-cow dairy, and how these experiences have prompted this aspiring large animal veterinarian to head into her sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a burning desire to grasp every opportunity to learn, grow and push herself to bring the highest value to her future veterinary clients. And that's a wrap! What an incredible finale to #TLevels week with the highly-anticipated session 'The science of animal sentience' thanks to our wonderful speaker Dr Chloe Stevens from the RSPCA Animals in Science Department. Chloe begun by sharing an overview of the RSPCA, who are celebrating their 200 year anniversary, the different science departments within the organisation, the work they do and how they interlink. We then dived into 'what is sentience?', the criteria that determines which animals are sentient, discussed case studies on specific species on how to best assess this and the importance of environmental enrichment. Chloe also explained why sentience matters and how the RSPCA applies this knowledge in their work, as well as sharing all-important insights into how Brexit has affected laws and regulations regarding animal welfare. The teachers were highly appreciative of the information and examples that Chloe showcased and are looking forward to sharing this with their students so they can put the theory into practice when they enter the workplace on their industry placements. 🌟 If you are an employer that would like to get involved in delivering similar events or can accommodate students on industry placements, please do get in touch as we start planning for the next academic term! 🌟

Fascinating research topic...
Meet Kylie Clark, a 3rd-year #UBCForestry BSc. Natural Resources Conservation co-op student! 🌿 “This summer, I independently found an internship with Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of wildlife. For 3 months, my responsibilities include the care and well-being of various Costa Rican wildlife species, engaging in tasks such as habitat cleaning, providing enrichment activities twice per day, training, and supporting the overall operations of the sanctuary. 💚 A key project of mine focuses on conducting a behavioural study on Geoffroy’s Spider Monkeys (the animal in this photo). This involves assessing the effectiveness of different enrichment, identifying the most beneficial approaches, and innovating new enrichment activities. The objective is to develop a comprehensive enrichment calendar that increases the mental and physical well-being of Chester and Festus, our resident spider monkeys. 🐒 This hands-on experience is allowing me to contribute to meaningful conservation efforts while gaining valuable insights into wildlife behaviour, community engagement, and sanctuary management worldwide.” 🌳 Learn more about co-op and how you can gain cool experiences like these! https://bit.ly/3kDPj5q 🔗

Knowledge is Power Today at the zoo, I noticed something interesting. Most people, myself included, could identify only a fraction of the animals, relying on signs or others for the rest. A couple of times, while explaining animals to my daughter, I overheard others repeating my words to their families as if it were their own discovery! It hit me: knowledge is power. The less we know, the more we depend on others. But by constantly learning, we grow confident and independent. So, let’s keep fueling our curiosity and never stop seeking knowledge—it’s what empowers us. #KnowledgeIsPower #KeepLearning #PersonalGrowth

We are thrilled to have signed a grant agreement with the NLC to make a change in the care of shelter pets in South Africa. In the new year we begin our funded 1 year internship programme. It will not only uplift our youth but will train dog carers for shelters in South Africa. Along with our onsite training the interns will work on their level 3 IMDT qualification. After 6 months of intense training in animal Care and behaviour, they will be placed in another shelter for 6 months fully funded to transfer knowledge and uplift the care of their shelter animals. We cannot wait to start this impactful project with our interns in 2025 so we can continue to make a difference, helping shelter animals and those that care for them across the country.
