You've got questions and we've got answers! As we look ahead to the mayoral elections on 2 May, we're responding to your queries about the Mayor, the Combined Authority, and what it all means for our region. 💬 You’ve asked: Isn’t this just another layer of government bureaucracy? 🗨️ In York and North Yorkshire, democratic arrangements have changed. Local government reorganisation in North Yorkshire unlocked funding for devolution and formed a unitary council for North Yorkshire. This means instead of seven district and borough councils in North Yorkshire, there is one unitary council for North Yorkshire (North Yorkshire Council) working alongside City of York Council with one combined authority. 🚀This arrangement means more decision making has moved from central government to local leaders who know our area best. Council leaders will work with the Mayor and the Combined Authority to unlock funding to improve transport, deliver more housing on brownfield sites, create job opportunities, improve skills and training and to help the economy transition to net zero – with more to come. 📣 Your vote in the York and North Yorkshire Mayoral election on 2 May 2024 matters because it will elect a Mayor to lead the Combined Authority. ➡️ Find out about the role of a mayor and make sure you take part in this election: https://hubs.ly/Q02pM0C-0 #GetReadyToVote #YourVoteMatters #yourvote #yourmayor #youryorkandnorthyorkshire

Housing availability and affordability issues will not go away after November 5th. If anything, these issues should be a top priority for our newly elected officials to get to work on. No matter the outcome, there will be opportunities and challenges presented to the industry over the coming years. We are hopeful that the solutions we present can find agreement from both sides of the aisle. Vote Pro-Housing!

The Combined Authority is one month old! 🎉 Over the last few weeks, we’ve been listening to your questions, and we want to provide some answers as we move towards mayoral elections on 2nd May. 💬 You’ve asked: Is the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority replacing City of York Council and North Yorkshire Council? 🗨️ No. We work closely with these local authorities to deliver devolution to York and North Yorkshire. 🔓 Devolution is unlocking new funding and using powers transferring from Westminster to tackle important issues like transport, create more affordable homes, improve skills and training, support businesses and to help the economy transition to net zero 🌱. We are a legally recognised, single body created by these councils to work together across York and North Yorkshire and we don’t replace them. We’re working with your local authority to address the issues that matter to you, in your area, from the dales to the city and the coast and everywhere in between. 🗳️ You can vote for a mayor to lead the Combined Authority in the election taking place on Thursday 2 May. ➡️ Find out more about the election, our work and the role of the mayor here: https://hubs.ly/Q02pgKXX0 #GetReadyToVote #YourVoteMatters #yourvote #yourmayor #youryorkandnorthyorkshire

ELECTION DAY IS COMING - WILL YOU BE PART OF THE CHANGE? I’m running for the Mayor of Hornsby – and it’s time for real change. With the election coming up on 14 September, your choice for Mayor could not be more important. You’ve told me clearly that real change is needed. You’re fed up with the same responses from your Mayor and Council. You’re also fed up with politicians who take our community and your vote for granted. For more than 30 years I’ve served as a council officer and Councillor – with three terms as a Hornsby Councillor. I’ve delivered meaningful ideas and common-sense solutions to the challenges we face – recognising that the best outcomes are achieved when those most affected are at the decision-making table. I know that local government is so much more than roads, rates and rubbish – you want a responsive, community-focused council that puts you and your family’s needs first. Help me to throw open the doors of Council and ensure your voice is heard: not just in the lead-up to an election, but everyday. Vote 1 Janelle McIntosh for Mayor on 14 September 2024. Be part of the Real Change for Hornsby.

An important and timely piece from the editor of the TC and I trust it will promote good debate and hopefully egos are replaced with some common sense and certain people do what is best for future generations. This province has too much going for it to be destroyed by a few people that have an ideology that just does not work in this highly competitive global marketplace. To be honest, if the direction does not change; safety in communities will continue to decline, individual rights and properties will be attacked even more, and the economic decay will only accelerate. The truth hurts and there never has been a more important election for BC.
Editorial: In this election, Eby should be put to the test

What do the public think of Lee Anderson's defection to Reform UK? Some thoughts? 1. Anderson not that well known. Just 30% familiar with him (though more than new boss). 2. 1 in 3 think his defection negative for Tories. Almost half of 2019 Con voters say its good for Reform UK. 3. But public say there should be a by election in Ashfield (versus waiting for next election) by more than 2:1 margin. More here: https://lnkd.in/dVG8Jhdu

🚀 Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Launches 2024 General Election Manifesto! 🚀 We urge all local Parliamentary candidates to support our 15-point programme aimed at securing sustainable economic growth for Suffolk. Suffolk’s business community has shown incredible resilience, weathering storms from COVID-19 to inflation. However, our recent economic surveys show a dip in key business indicators. We need clarity on what to expect from our Parliamentary representatives in the next 4-5 years. We are surveying all Parliamentary candidates on their support for this programme. Results will be shared with our members. Based on evidence of real business experiences collected through investigations over the last four years and more by the Chamber’s respected policy groups, the 15-point General Election manifesto covers key asks vital for Suffolk businesses. 🔗 Read the full Chamber General Election Manifesto here; https://lnkd.in/eCc-Aaqx Look out for news on the Chamber series of hustings, bringing together local Parliamentary candidates and business leaders, including an event in Ipswich in partnership with the University of Suffolk. We are in election mode already, with announcements and signals from some part of our great state almost every day of the week. The ABC’s Antony Green pointed out recently that ‘the political geography of Queensland for state elections is that Labor must hold seats in regional cities along the state’s coast to win a majority.’ This would seemingly include Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, and Bundaberg seats. Theoretically, there are not enough seats in inner-city Brisbane to compensate for missing out on victories in regional cities in this scenario. The battlegrounds for 2024 would therefore normally be two-pronged: up north and inner Brisbane (where the Greens could play an interesting role). Everywhere else is usually pretty well accounted for. However, the recent by-election swings have introduced a significant element of unpredictability. These swings, could potentially move the safely contested seats, as they did in 2012 and again in 2015, and were among the biggest in electoral history! One went the way of the LNP, and one went back to Labor. Current polling suggests the former is most likely on this occasion, but there is still a long way to go, and as Elle Goulding likes to remind us, ‘ Anything could happen!’. At Q Shelter we’ll be talking to anyone aspiring to political office, that has an interest in continuing to solve for our #Housing and #Homelessness challenges. Whilst there is already generational investment occurring right now, we have decades to catch up on, and there is still a lot more to do 🙌 🏡 🗳️ #2024StateElection #Queensland #LotsToPlayOut #HomeMatters #BetterTogether
