American Airlines is confident in transatlantic demand remaining strong next summer, especially to core leisure markets like Athens and Rome, SVP of Network Planning Brian Znotins told me. Market dominance, hub-centricity, and high point-to-point airfares, are typically key ingredients inviting new competition. On my Australia City presence post last week https://lnkd.in/gTvPWf3r, market power of the Qantas Group (#Qantas/ #Jetstar) at around 62% of all seat capacity, and dominance in every major Australian city was evident. Australia has some competition with #Virgin, #Rex and others. For New Zealand, the domestic airline competitive landscape is evident in the chart below. Scheduled seat capacity is at around 85%-86% for the national airline on an annualized basis. #Regional city reliance on a single #airline with a dominant #hub structure, would typically trigger a government's interest for an objective and forward-thinking national aviation #strategy.
