This is an interesting article highlighting the challenges associated with Texas' integration of privatization within the child protection system. Regardless of your view point on the privatization, we all must remain steadfast in our focus on serving the best interests of the children entrusted to the system's care. Every Texan plays a role from voters, legislators, parents, educators, and especially those of us serving within the child protective system.

💔 20,000 Children Disappear from Foster Care Every Year. Missouri Says ‘No More.’ 💔 Imagine being a child in foster care—feeling invisible, lost, and forgotten. Every year, nearly 20,000 kids go missing from the system across the U.S., with no one searching for them. It’s a heartbreaking reality. But Missouri is changing that. As we mark over two decades since the inception of the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program, it's time to reflect on the progress and the urgent needs of young adults transitioning out of foster care. Despite strides in support, these young individuals face daunting challenges such as homelessness, unemployment, and the absence of a safety net as they age out of the system. Here are four pivotal ways we can amplify our efforts: Tailor Support to Individual Needs: Recognize the diverse experiences and needs of young adults to offer more personalized support services. Ease Access to Resources: Simplify program application processes and improve accessibility to essential services. Implement Service Off-Ramps, Not Cliffs: Transition services should gradually reduce, not abruptly end, providing a smoother transition to independence. Boost Funding and Guidance: Increase financial support and provide states with the technical assistance needed to effectively serve these young adults. The journey from foster care to adulthood should not be fraught with uncertainty. It's time for policies that not only acknowledge the challenges but actively pave a path to stability and success for every young adult transitioning out of foster care. Your support can change lives. Join us in advocating for a future where every young adult has the foundation they need to thrive. 💪🌈 #FosterCareSupport #TransitionToAdulthood #ChafeeProgram #AdvocacyInAction #YouthEmpowerment

50% of foster kids are in 5% of U.S. counties. While children of all races are affected by the foster care system, Black children are disproportionately represented and face significant disparities in treatment and outcomes. These children are at a higher risk for negative outcomes later in life due to systemic issues and societal factors. Our Empower Every Community initiative focuses on addressing these critical issues by empowering local churches to take meaningful action. Churches, deeply embedded in their communities and trusted by their members, are uniquely positioned to help reverse racial disproportionality and improve outcomes for all families. Through research, we’ve identified 2,009 “Crux Codes”—specific zip codes where local churches can have a transformative impact. By leveraging the trust and relationships these churches have, we aim to reduce the number of children entering foster care and strengthen families through community-based Care-Sharing. Together, we can address the disparities in the child welfare system and create a more equitable and supportive environment for vulnerable children and families. https://lnkd.in/gjs9CG_7

LIVED EXPERIENCE MATTERS In foster care, juvenile justice, and other systems, those with lived experiences are not just survivors—they are experts. Their voices hold the wisdom of firsthand knowledge, the insight of personal trials, and the strength of overcoming adversity. Too often, the voices of those who have lived through the system are overshadowed by celebrities and figures without the same experiences. This is a disservice to the very community these discussions aim to support. It’s time to change this narrative. Individuals with lived experiences must be at the table of every conversation, contributing to every decision that impacts their lives. They deserve not only a platform but also fair compensation for their invaluable insights and contributions. Your story matters. Your voice matters. You are an expert, and your lived experience is a powerful tool for change. Let’s ensure that the voices of foster youth, juvenile justice advocates, and others with lived experiences are amplified, respected, and heard in all arenas. #LivedExperienceMatters #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #ExpertiseThroughExperience #FosterCare #JuvenileJustice #SystemReform
