Just a thought: Now that we live in an era where most of the services organisations use, are in the cloud. At some point, organisations can split or merge. Or when the service agreement ends, they might start to use another similar service. When the service in question has cloud storage for the content created by the organisation, and the users can share the content via links outside, it becomes a problem: When the service changes, and the content is migrated to another service or even just another instance of the same service (=when the URLs to the content change, e. g. when content is copied to another M365 tenant). This seems to be an unbearable burden for ordinary users, who are responsible for sharing their own content. All the links break. What a nuisance it can be! I'm just saying: it would be great if, for example, #Moodle had one view where the user could edit all their links to their own content, in all their own courses: that is, a view where old links could be replaced with new links easily! Now users have to go to each view and change the links one by one where they have linked material and it can be really tedious and time consuming. #cloudservices #migration #userfriendliness

Lower traffic because of the summer holidays? So should your cloud costs. If you are in a seasonal business where summertime is not the busiest of months you should think about optimising your cloud for this period. Think about the following to save on cloud costs: In a lot of cases less traffic means less processing power, so less vm’s or cheaper vms that have a lower compute. Is half your development team on vacation? Be critical on what resources are needed in the test and development environments. Maybe some of them can be set to zero completely during this time. You can vertical scale back databases as well. But remember to scale them up before the holidays are over. Right-sizing for this specific period can be interesting but letting your instances autoscale will get you a long way. #cloudcost #aknostic #kubernetes

Storage Almost Full. I used to get this notification a lot. And when that happens, you have two choices: free up space or buy more. But the truth is: No amount of cloud storage will ever satisfy you. In Italy, there’s a saying: “la coperta è corta.” It means, “the blanket is short.” You either cover your head or your feet, but never both. The problem is, we collect more than we can handle. Photos, files, and apps pile up, drowning us. Soon, we don’t know what’s worth keeping or deleting. You don’t need less data. You need better retention. If you’re not going to post that vacation picture in the next 30 days, it’s probably just sitting there, forgotten, in the cloud. Not using that screenshot this week? You won’t ever. Did you save a log file but forget why? You’ve already lost the context - it’s dead weight. If you don’t remember why you saved it, there’s no reason to keep it. Period. Set yourself a retention window - 30 days, 60 days, you decide. If you haven’t used or needed something by then, hit DELETE. No second guessing. So, don’t limit what you capture. Limit what you keep. Pro tip: Upload your travel videos privately to YouTube. Nobody will know except the three of us. :) #everydayproblems #developerheadache

Every now and then we caught off guard. Stuck in a situation where we are not in the office and need to access our accounting system for an urgent reason. What do you do? ‘I could phone the office and try to talk the receptionist through it… Nah, it would take too long to explain.
