Culture Eats Strategy for Breakfast: A Microsoft Case Study. Imagine stepping into Satya Nadella's shoes when he turned CEO in 2014. At the time, Microsoft was/had: - not agile - not innovative - no clear goals - siloed organization - not customer-centric - no experimentation culture I vividly recall my digital leadership course at Growth Tribe, where Nadella's transformative leadership at Microsoft was one of our case studies for anti-fragile organizations. His brainchild wasn't a cutting-edge product, but a cultural revolution. Nadella handpicked his faithful lieutenants, instilling the right people in key positions. Thus creating a strong guiding coalition to execute his vision of leadership and strategy to change the organization. A new culture was born, allowing Microsoft to emerge triumphantly and grow exponentially. From then on Microsoft's culture was defined by: - Continuous experimentation - Incremental approach - Psychological safety - Continuous learning - Diversity of thought - Disruptive thinking - Systems thinking - Growth mindset - Data-informed Or as Satya phrased it: "We are moving from a group of people who know it all to a group of people who want to learn it all." Remember, a game-changing strategy is vital, but without a culture to support it? That is a disaster waiting to happen. And it happens to >90% of digital transformations. What is your war story?
