I learned this week that in 2023, the food and beverage industry had the highest e-commerce conversion rate of any industry at 3.7%, according to data from Statista. It's kind of funny because I think that, as consumers, we're likely to believe that food and beverages are the actually the hardest category of goods to sell online. And we'd be wrong to assume that. It got me thinking about how many business owners out there stop in their tracks because they think that their product isn't scalable or can't be sold via e-commerce. The better way to do things is to benchmark before throwing in the towel. Imagine how many people decided not to grow their food business because they thought, "who would buy this through a shopify site?" When in reality, they might have had an easier time selling their food product than selling a t-shirt. The moral of the story is, don't operate on assumptions.
