When was the last time you told a colleague how much you appreciated their hard work or congratulated them on a job well done? Bragging about others is central to any positive work culture. For example, if I notice that one of our employees has done an exceptional job on a project or has gone above and beyond to assist a client, I make a point of sharing that feedback with their manager or another relevant team member. By highlighting their great work to others, we foster a sense of pride and appreciation that can be incredibly motivating. Another initiative we started years ago is our "Attaboy/Attagirl" box and a “Thank You” box. We encourage our team members to write compliments or thank-you notes to their colleagues, whether it was for a job well done, exceptional customer service, or simply being a great team player. These notes could come from anyone in the company and we collect them throughout the year. Then, at our annual Christmas party, we drew from the box and awarded prizes to the individuals who had received the most recognition. These awards remained separate from those who received recognition for having the highest sales volume or biggest customer. It's a simple but powerful opportunity that any organization can implement to boost morale, increase engagement, and create a culture of positivity and success. What are some ways that you promote gratitude and recognition in your workplace? How have you seen these practices impact your team's morale and performance?
Love that you recognize the great work of others
Not enough organizations realize how essential this is. This is definitely one of the reasons I skip, whistle and smile on my way into the office everyday.
