Scientists need a fast and accurate way to identify different species, which traditionally involves slow and complex DNA sequencing. Inventors at University of Central Florida developed new method uses a special tube (cylindrical nanopore) to slide DNA through, measuring the speed of its parts to identify specific markers (protein tags). Like scanning a barcode, this technique quickly and precisely identifies species without reading long DNA sequences. It's faster, cheaper, and avoids common errors, making species identification much more efficient. Can't resist sharing a major win from our team where we made true multimodal spatial 'omics measurements over the last few weeks. With 10x Genomics Xenium, Akoya Biosciences, Inc. PhenoCycler-Fusion, and H&E staining on the same tissue section, we have captured cell morphology, the x,y,z locations of 300 transcript species, and the spatial expression of 40 proteins in the same tissue sections. Protocol & beautiful image below!
