Open XDR specialist Stellar Cyber is incorporating four distinct technologies — machine learning (ML), graph ML, generative AI and hyper-automation — all in a single, unified platform with the purpose of improving threat detection and reducing response time. Stellar Cyber’s launch of its Multi-Layer AI capability this week effectively applies AI at multiple steps in the detection, correlation and response process to reduce alert volume, prioritize and correlate threats, counsel analysts and respond automatically, according to the company. “We have always focused on using AI in our platform, and we have led our SecOps platform competitors in this area since 2018,” Aimei Wei, founder and Chief Technology Officer of Stellar Cyber, told MSSP Alert. “Our Multi-Factor AI is an industry first because it leverages four different types of AI in one platform. We’re the only ones who do that. “ Stellar Cyber pioneered the use of AI in a SecOps platform with the debut of its Open XDR platform in 2018, and now advances its platform’s capabilities through Multi-Layer AI. “Analysts were so buried in alerts that they couldn’t tell the real ones from the false ones, and it could take months to see and respond to the real threats,” said Steve Garrison, Steller Cyber’s senior vice president of Marketing. “That’s why we baked AI into our SecOps platform from day one, and why we are continuing to leverage it in all forms as we move forward.” https://lnkd.in/gReKiPqe

Are we building brand new vulnerable systems? Why prompt injection attacks could be the achilles’ heel of artificial intelligence Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing industries, streamlining processes and driving innovation. But behind the promise of AI lies a critical vulnerability that many organizations are just beginning to understand. AI systems, while powerful, are increasingly becoming targets for exploitation. And one of the most pressing threats is prompt injection attacks. What are prompt injection attacks? Prompt injection attacks manipulate the input given to AI models, coercing them into performing unintended, harmful, or outright dangerous actions. Unlike traditional cybersecurity exploits, these attacks focus on the instructions that guide AI systems. Here’s what they can do: • Extract confidential data: Cleverly crafted prompts can trick an AI into revealing sensitive or proprietary information. • Trigger malicious actions: Manipulated inputs can cause AI-driven systems to make harmful decisions or execute unintended tasks. • Spread misinformation: Attackers can influence models to generate and propagate false or harmful content, eroding trust in the technology. Why This Is a Serious Concern: • Black box behavior: Many AI models operate with opaque decision-making processes, making it difficult to predict how they will respond to manipulated inputs. • Automation amplifies impact: AI systems increasingly automate critical operations. A single compromised model can disrupt entire workflows or industries. • Scalability of threats: Vulnerabilities in AI systems can be exploited at scale, multiplying the damage across thousands of applications and users. How Can Organizations Respond? AI security must be a foundational consideration, not an afterthought. To mitigate risks like prompt injection attacks, organizations should: • Conduct rigorous testing to identify weaknesses and simulate adversarial scenarios. • Implement robust input validation systems to detect and block malicious prompts. • Commit to regular updates and security audits to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities. AI is a transformative force, but its potential comes with significant risks. Addressing vulnerabilities like prompt injection attacks is essential to ensure that the systems we rely on remain secure, trustworthy, and resilient. What Do You Think? Are businesses and developers doing enough to secure AI systems? Or are we underestimating the risks posed by these new attack vectors? Let’s discuss. #ArtificialIntelligence #Cybersecurity #PromptInjection #AIrisks #DigitalSecurity

An outstanding article about the possibility of AI system poisoning from internal and external threat actors: "Availability poisoning, 'which indiscriminately impacts the entire machine learning model and, in essence, causes a denial-of-service attack on users of the AI system.' Targeted poisoning, in which hackers 'induce a change in the [machine learning] model’s prediction on a small number of targeted samples.' Backdoor poisoning, where 'image classifiers can be poisoned by adding a small patch trigger in a subset of images at training time and changing their label to a target class,' with NIST further noting that although 'the majority of backdoor poisoning attacks are designed for computer vision applications, this attack vector has been effective in other application domains with different data modalities, such as audio, NLP, and cybersecurity settings.' And model poisoning, attacks that 'attempt to directly modify the trained ML model to inject malicious functionality into the model.' " https://lnkd.in/gtqXbF4X
