#SummerTimeFunTime
Board games are a fun pastime during summer vacations because they offer engaging entertainment that bring people together. They also offer a refreshing break from digital screens, promoting face-to-face communication and teamwork.
As a portfolio manager, it may come as no surprise that my favourites involve investing. In no particular order:
🎲 Stock Ticker
First released in 1937, the game has six stocks, all of which are commodities - gold, silver, bonds, oil, industrials, and grain.
Players are given starting money of $5,000 and they buy shares in groups of 500, 1,000, 2,000, or 5,000. The stocks move based on the throw of three dice.
🎲 Monopoly
The goal of this game is to invest in real estate, earn cash flow, and have the most money at the end.
How do you do it? By investing at the right time and having enough cash to be able to do so. You can also upgrade and invest in your real estate to develop it and make it worth more.
It also involves planning and trading aspects; you have to plan what to do with your cash, and you have the opportunity to trade and make deals as well.
🎲 The Game of Life
This is another classic board game that teaches basic money topics. It’s similar to Monopoly, except players choose different paths based on simulated real-life choices, such as career and family.
The game teaches children why it's important to start investing early, and how compound interest works.
🎲 Cash Flow 101
Here, players learn the basics of investing, income and expenses. It even delves into advanced investing techniques.

🎲 Puerto Rico
This is probably the least known game on my list. It’s all about being a capitalist on the Island of Puerto Rico. The goal is to build up a company before the island runs out of workers, the capital becomes civilized, or the market reaches over capacity.
Is your favourite board game not on my list? If so, let me know in the comments section!
