In the early days of hiring in the software developer space, the landscape was relatively straightforward. Companies sought out developers primarily based on their ability to write code and solve technical problems. The focus was largely on finding individuals with specific language skills and problem-solving abilities. If you could code, it was pretty likely you would find work. Fast-forward to today, and this rapid growth has begun to level out. Not only that, but many companies have had mass layoffs. Recently, when I was looking for a switch. I noticed that few interviewers take the interview for the sake of just interviewing. They have no interest in hiring the candidate. Here are a few tips ( or, steps ) to identify them 1. He / She will be a Technology Head or Architect or a person at a high position. 2. For a 30 min round they will join 15mins late. ( And you have to personally call the HR to ask them to join ) 3. Will wrap the interview in only 10-15 mins. 4. Will ask you unwanted questions. 5. Will mute there mike after asking a question and will never listen to your answers. 6. In the end they will give you the feedback that you don't have basic knowledge of your respective language. 7. And if the interview is for Frontend Developer they will give the feedback that you don't have knowledge of Backend or Databases or DevOps. 8. They will also ask you to change your tech as whatever you have learned is of no use. These companies and such managers are the top notch red flags to even start or switch to a new journey. Be aware of them and never join or work under such managers even if you get selected. ---> Once a VP Engineering of a renowned company asked me to switch to Backend as Frontend is of no use in the tech market. -The harsh truth about the development industry I've been programming for about three years, transitioning from backend to frontend development and learning multiple languages and various APIs/libraries along the way. IT industry has changed dramatically since the massive tech layoffs starting in 2022 and the massive spread of AI tools. Front-end development, and development in general, has turned into an endless cycle of learning new technologies, only to see them become obsolete in a matter of months. IT companies are predominantly hiring senior-level developers, while massive layoffs continue to leave thousands of developers jobless. As a result, junior developers find it nearly impossible to break into the industry. The entry for IT has become way too tiring. That's why I think it's time to move on from this endless "swamp". It was fun while it lasted 🙃
