ABUSE OF DOMINANT POSITION: Antimonopoly Office investigates wholesale access to MVNOs in Slovakia
Last month (October), the Protimonopolný úrad Slovenskej republiky (#PMÚ) = The Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic, started an investigation in the field of wholesale access to mobile networks for mobile virtual network operators (#MVNO).
There is currently no independent MVNOs operating in the Slovak Republic that does not belong to one of the existing mobile operators.
The PMU therefore decided to examine the development of the situation in this area as part of its legal competences.
The main goal of the PMU is to ensure space for intense economic competition on the market, which can generate the best possible conditions for consumers in terms of variety of choice, quality or price.
In the event that the PMÚ suspects during the investigation that the law on the protection of economic competition may have been violated, it will use all legal options to verify its findings, which may result in the imposition of a sanction or acceptance of obligations in order to protect economic competition.

UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) spokesperson, Dr Marina Murphy, appeared on GB News this morning as part of a discussion on whether it’s ‘time to axe vapes’.
She explained that these age-gated products were designed to help smokers quit and that they have been extremely successful in achieving that goal – the latest data from ASH UK reveals that more than half of ex-smokers in Great Britain who quit in the past five years used a vape in their last quit attempt.
Dr Murphy also addressed concerns around EVALI, explaining that the outbreak of lung illness in the US was linked with contaminated illegal products containing THC and was NOT caused by legitimate nicotine vaping products. The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) warns ‘communications about EVALI should clearly separate vaping these illicit substances from nicotine vaping’.
She went onto say that more action should be taken to cut off the supply of underage and illicit vape sales. To that end, the industry has developed a first-of-its-kind vape licensing framework which would prevent inappropriate businesses – such as sweet shops – from selling these products.
It would also impose a strict set of compliance requirements for licence holders, bring into force much more impactful penalties for those flouting the law and generate upwards of £50 million in annual, self-sustaining funding which could be used to empower trading standards and support a proactive national programme of enforcement.

Let me share a personal story that shaped my view on trust and technology. As an actor, I had a frustrating dispute with my manager over commission and payments. Confused by complex legal agreements and lacking transparency into the flow of funds, trust between us crumbled.
In that moment, I thought, “There has to be a better way.” I’d rather trust technology—objective and reliable—than navigate opaque systems controlled by others.
Back then, smart contracts caught my attention. But, in 2020, they were a misnomer—not truly “smart” or recognized as legal contracts. They were rudimentary, but the seed of disintermediation was planted. The idea that technology could automate and enforce agreements without intermediaries sparked a vision of a more transparent, trustworthy system.
Today, that vision is becoming reality. AI and blockchain have matured, reshaping how we connect, create, and do business. AI automates tasks and removes unnecessary intermediaries, reducing costs and opening new avenues once blocked by unseen barriers.
But as we venture down these new paths, we face age-old questions of trust and security. Without traditional gatekeepers, how do we ensure the ground we’re walking on is solid?
This is where blockchain steps in, acting like a lighthouse. With advanced smart contracts, we have self-executing agreements on the blockchain that automatically enforce terms. These contracts have evolved—they’re smarter, more reliable, and increasingly recognized legally. They turn complex agreements into transparent, tamper-proof code, leaving no room for ambiguity.
The fusion of AI and blockchain isn’t just about tech; it’s about rewriting how we collaborate and trust. Crafting clear, self-enforcing agreements is like illuminating a well-lit path where every step is clear.
Imagine artists sharing creations directly, every sale transparently recorded, fair compensation automatic. Envision entrepreneurs collaborating globally without mistrust, agreements clear and self-executing.
Looking back, I wish these tools existed during my acting days—it would have turned a disheartening experience into an empowering one. But what’s more exciting is what this means for all of us moving forward.
We’re at the dawn of an era where technology doesn’t just automate—it humanizes. It lets us focus on what matters: creating, innovating, connecting. Systems handle the rest with integrity and transparency, like a trusted friend.
Let’s embrace this chance to rebuild trust through technology, turning obstacles into stepping stones, exploring new horizons. Together, we can turn frustration into catalysts for change, lighting the way for others.
The journey ahead isn’t just about technology advancing; it’s about us evolving with it, forging paths to opportunities we’ve only dreamed of.

A big part of me is my love of music. My musical tastes all derive from The Beatles and flow through 80s/90s English Pop and then expand into contemporary indie pop. I have made a lot of stops along the way with artists that spoke to me, like Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears, Death Cab For Cutie and even The Fixx.
In the 2000's when I was running eMusic, Deirdre Stone (our head of product) introduced me to cy curnin of The Fixx (and we have gone to see them many times together!) Somehow, despite my fandomness, Cy and I became friends. His son, Max Curnin even has a cool crypto startup.
Life came full circle when, a few weeks ago, Cy invited me to be a guest on his podcast, "I Suffer For My Art, Now It's Your Turn." We talk about the evolution of the music business through cycles of tech innovation, web3 and what it might mean for music, and what Cy feels right before he goes on stage! (hint: he takes the job of entertaining us VERY seriously!) I also name check many of the digital music pioneers like my friends Marc Geiger, ian rogers, and Peter Gotcher.
Have a listen and let us both know what you think?
