🌟 Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to speak at the Autistic Pride Day Symposium in Melbourne. It was a day filled with inspiring stories, innovative ideas, and a strong sense of community. Here are some key takeaways from the discussions: 💡 We delved into the strength of neurodivergent (ND) founders and their amazing brains. Their hyper focus and unique perspectives are driving innovation in ways the world is just beginning to understand. 📈 However, we also acknowledged the challenges of performance pitching. Many ND individuals find traditional pitching formats daunting, which can hinder their ability to showcase their brilliant ideas. It's essential to develop more inclusive pitching environments. 🔄 A significant theme was the importance of integrating systems rather than keeping separate systems for ND individuals. Inclusive design benefits everyone, and seamless integration can lead to more cohesive and supportive environments. 🤝 The value of co-design and feedback was a major highlight. Engaging ND individuals in the design process ensures that the solutions truly meet their needs and preferences. This collaborative approach is key to creating effective and user-friendly technology. 🔧 We also explored "Tism Tech" – autistic tech built by autistic people. This emerging field is a testament to the power of lived experience in driving technological advancement and creating tools that genuinely support the autistic community. 💬 Throughout the day, we shared stories and ideas to promote autistic and ND inclusion across the community. The symposium brought together not only tech innovators but also speakers with a therapeutic lens, providing a holistic view of the challenges and opportunities we face. It was a day of learning, connection, and inspiration. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to these vital conversations.
